⁴ Because I will cut off both righteous and wicked from you, therefore My sword shall go out of its sheath against all flesh ^(A)from south to north,

⁴⁷ and say to the forest of the South, ‘Hear the word of the Lord! Thus says the Lord God: “Behold, ^(A)I will kindle a fire in you, and it shall devour ^(B)every green tree and every dry tree in you; the blazing flame shall not be quenched, and all faces ^(C)from the south to the north shall be scorched by it.

² “And you, son of man, thus says the Lord God to the land of Israel:

¹¹ ‘Thus says the Lord God: ^(A)“Pound^[a] your fists and stamp your feet, and say, ‘Alas, for all the evil abominations of the house of Israel! ^(B)For they shall fall by the sword, by famine, and by pestilence. ¹² He who is far off shall die by the pestilence, he who is near shall fall by the sword, and he who remains and is besieged shall die by the famine. ^(C)Thus will I spend My fury upon them. ¹³ Then you shall know that I am the Lord, when their slain are among their idols all around their altars, ^(D)on every high hill, ^(E)on all the mountaintops, ^(F)under every green tree, and under every thick oak, wherever they offered sweet incense to all their idols. ¹⁴ So I will ^(G)stretch out My hand against them and make the land desolate, yes, more desolate than the wilderness toward ^(H)Diblah, in all their dwelling places. Then they shall know that I am the Lord.’ ” ’ ”
