7 “You are no longer to give the people straw to make brick as previously; let them go and gather straw for themselves. 8 But the quota of bricks which they were making previously, you shall set upon them; you are not to reduce any of it. Because they are (A)lazy, therefore they are crying out, ‘[a]Let us go and sacrifice to our God.’ 9 Let their slavery be hard on the men, and let them work at it so that they will have no regard for false words.”

Exodus 5:7-9

7 Ye shall no more give the people straw to make brick, as heretofore: let them go and gather straw for themselves.
8 And the tale of the bricks, which they did make heretofore, ye shall lay upon them; ye shall not diminish ought thereof: for they be idle; therefore they cry, saying, Let us go and sacrifice to our God.
9 Let there more work be laid upon the men, that they may labour therein; and let them not regard vain words.

7 “You are no longer to supply the people with straw for making bricks;(A) let them go and gather their own straw. 8 But require them to make the same number of bricks as before; don’t reduce the quota.(B) They are lazy;(C) that is why they are crying out, ‘Let us go and sacrifice to our God.’(D) 9 Make the work harder for the people so that they keep working and pay no attention to lies.”
