⁹ and fasten caps on them. Then tie sashes on Aaron and his sons.^[a](A) The priesthood is theirs by a lasting ordinance.^(B)

“Then you shall ordain Aaron and his sons.

³³ Even after this, Jeroboam did not change his evil ways,^(A) but once more appointed priests for the high places from all sorts^(B) of people. Anyone who wanted to become a priest he consecrated for the high places.

³² They worshiped the Lord, but they also appointed all sorts^(A) of their own people to officiate for them as priests in the shrines at the high places.

¹⁴ The Levites^(A) even abandoned their pasturelands and property^(B) and came to Judah and Jerusalem, because Jeroboam and his sons had rejected them as priests of the Lord ¹⁵ when he appointed^(C) his own priests^(D) for the high places and for the goat^(E) and calf^(F) idols he had made.

⁹ But didn’t you drive out the priests^(A) of the Lord,^(B) the sons of Aaron, and the Levites, and make priests of your own as the peoples of other lands do? Whoever comes to consecrate himself with a young bull^(C) and seven rams^(D) may become a priest of what are not gods.^(E)
