⁴¹ Offer the other lamb in the evening, along with the same offerings of flour and wine as in the morning. It will be a pleasing aroma, a special gift presented to the Lord.

¹³ “Each morning you must sacrifice a one-year-old lamb with no defects as a burnt offering to the Lord. ¹⁴ With the lamb, a grain offering must also be given to the Lord—about three quarts of flour with a third of a gallon of olive oil^[a] to moisten the choice flour. This will be a permanent law for you. ¹⁵ The lamb, the grain offering, and the olive oil must be given as a daily sacrifice every morning without fail.

²¹ As I was praying, Gabriel, whom I had seen in the earlier vision, came swiftly to me at the time of the evening sacrifice.

⁴ Then all who trembled at the words of the God of Israel came and sat with me because of this outrage committed by the returned exiles. And I sat there utterly appalled until the time of the evening sacrifice.

⁵ At the time of the sacrifice, I stood up from where I had sat in mourning with my clothes torn. I fell to my knees and lifted my hands to the Lord my God.

¹⁵ He told Uriah the priest, “Use the new altar^[a] for the morning sacrifices of burnt offering, the evening grain offering, the king’s burnt offering and grain offering, and the burnt offerings of all the people, as well as their grain offerings and liquid offerings. Sprinkle the blood from all the burnt offerings and sacrifices on the new altar. The bronze altar will be for my personal use only.”

³⁶ At the usual time for offering the evening sacrifice, Elijah the prophet walked up to the altar and prayed, “O Lord, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob,^[a] prove today that you are God in Israel and that I am your servant. Prove that I have done all this at your command.

²⁹ They raved all afternoon until the time of the evening sacrifice, but still there was no sound, no reply, no response.
