¹¹ Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, ^(A)to be content: ^12 (B)I know how to ^[a]be abased, and I know how to ^[b]abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.

¹⁴ I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and indeed, all is vanity and grasping for the wind.

Haman’s Plot Against Mordecai

⁹ So Haman went out that day ^(A)joyful and with a glad heart; but when Haman saw Mordecai in the king’s gate, and ^(B)that he did not stand or tremble before him, he was filled with indignation against Mordecai.

⁴ So Ahab went into his house sullen and displeased because of the word which Naboth the Jezreelite had spoken to him; for he had said, “I will not give you the inheritance of my fathers.” And he lay down on his bed, and turned away his face, and would eat no food. ⁵ But ^(A)Jezebel his wife came to him, and said to him, “Why is your spirit so sullen that you eat no food?”

⁶ He said to her, “Because I spoke to Naboth the Jezreelite, and said to him, ‘Give me your vineyard for money; or else, if it pleases you, I will give you another vineyard for it.’ And he answered, ‘I will not give you my vineyard.’ ”
