Ephesians 6 - Philippians 1
English Standard Version
Children and Parents
6 (A)Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2 (B)“Honor your father and mother” (this is the first commandment with a promise), 3 “that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.” 4 Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, (C)but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.
Bondservants and Masters
5 (D)Bondservants,[a] obey your earthly masters[b] with fear and trembling, (E)with a sincere heart, (F)as you would Christ, 6 not by the way of eye-service, as (G)people-pleasers, but as bondservants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart, 7 rendering service with a good will as to the Lord and not to man, 8 (H)knowing that whatever good anyone does, this he will receive back from the Lord, (I)whether he is a bondservant or is free. 9 Masters, do the same to them, (J)and stop your threatening, knowing that (K)he who is both their Master[c] and yours is in heaven, and that (L)there is no partiality with him.
The Whole Armor of God
10 Finally, (M)be strong in the Lord and in (N)the strength of his might. 11 (O)Put on (P)the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against (Q)the schemes of the devil. 12 For (R)we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against (S)the rulers, against the authorities, against (T)the cosmic powers over (U)this present darkness, against (V)the spiritual forces of evil (W)in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore (X)take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in (Y)the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. 14 Stand therefore, (Z)having fastened on the belt of truth, and (AA)having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and, (AB)as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. 16 In all circumstances take up (AC)the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all (AD)the flaming darts of (AE)the evil one; 17 and take (AF)the helmet of salvation, and (AG)the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, 18 praying (AH)at all times (AI)in the Spirit, (AJ)with all prayer and supplication. To that end, (AK)keep alert with all perseverance, making (AL)supplication for all the saints, 19 and (AM)also for me, that words may be given to me in opening my mouth (AN)boldly to proclaim (AO)the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I (AP)am an ambassador (AQ)in chains, that I may declare it boldly, as I ought to speak.
Final Greetings
21 (AR)So that you also may know how I am and what I am doing, (AS)Tychicus the beloved brother and faithful minister in the Lord will tell you everything. 22 I have sent him to you for this very purpose, that you may know how we are, and that he may (AT)encourage your hearts.
23 (AU)Peace be to the brothers,[d] and (AV)love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 24 Grace be with all who (AW)love our Lord Jesus Christ with love incorruptible.
Greeting
1 Paul and Timothy, servants[e] of Christ Jesus,
To all the (AX)saints in Christ Jesus who are at Philippi, with the (AY)overseers[f] and (AZ)deacons:[g]
2 (BA)Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Thanksgiving and Prayer
3 (BB)I thank my God (BC)in all my remembrance of you, 4 always in every prayer of mine for you all making my prayer with joy, 5 (BD)because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now. 6 And I am sure of this, that he who began (BE)a good work in you (BF)will bring it to completion at (BG)the day of Jesus Christ. 7 It is right for me to feel this way about you all, because I hold you (BH)in my heart, for you are all (BI)partakers with me of grace,[h] both (BJ)in my imprisonment and in (BK)the defense and confirmation of the gospel. 8 For (BL)God is my witness, (BM)how I yearn for you all with the affection of Christ Jesus. 9 And it is my prayer that (BN)your love may abound more and more, (BO)with knowledge and all discernment, 10 so that you may approve what is excellent, (BP)and so be pure and blameless (BQ)for the day of Christ, 11 filled (BR)with the fruit of righteousness that comes (BS)through Jesus Christ, (BT)to the glory and praise of God.
The Advance of the Gospel
12 I want you to know, brothers,[i] that what has happened to me has really (BU)served to advance the gospel, 13 so that it has become known throughout the whole imperial guard[j] and (BV)to all the rest that (BW)my imprisonment is for Christ. 14 And most of the brothers, having become confident in the Lord by my imprisonment, are much more bold (BX)to speak the word[k] without fear.
15 (BY)Some indeed preach Christ from envy and rivalry, but others from good will. 16 The latter do it out of love, (BZ)knowing that I am put here for (CA)the defense of the gospel. 17 The former proclaim Christ (CB)out of selfish ambition, not sincerely but thinking to afflict me in my imprisonment. 18 What then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is proclaimed, and in that I rejoice.
To Live Is Christ
Yes, and I will rejoice, 19 for I know that (CC)through your prayers and (CD)the help of (CE)the Spirit of Jesus Christ this will turn out for my deliverance, 20 as it is my eager expectation and hope (CF)that I will not be at all ashamed, but that with full (CG)courage now as always Christ (CH)will be honored in my body, (CI)whether by life or by death. 21 For to me (CJ)to live is Christ, and to die is gain. 22 If I am to live in the flesh, that means fruitful labor for me. Yet which I shall choose I cannot tell. 23 (CK)I am hard pressed between the two. My desire is (CL)to depart and (CM)be with Christ, for that is far better. 24 But to remain in the flesh is more necessary on your account. 25 (CN)Convinced of this, (CO)I know that I will remain and continue with you all, for your (CP)progress and (CQ)joy in the faith, 26 so that in me (CR)you may have ample cause to glory in Christ Jesus, because of my coming to you again.
27 Only (CS)let your manner of life be (CT)worthy[l] of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of you (CU)that you are standing firm in one spirit, with (CV)one mind (CW)striving side by side for the faith of the gospel, 28 and not frightened in anything by your opponents. This is (CX)a clear sign to them of their destruction, but (CY)of your salvation, and that from God. 29 For (CZ)it has been granted to you that for the sake of Christ you should not only believe in him but also (DA)suffer for his sake, 30 engaged in the same (DB)conflict that (DC)you saw I had and now hear that I still have.
