Ecclesiastes 10:8-10

Darby Translation

⁸He that diggeth a pit falleth into it; and whoso breaketh down a hedge, a serpent biteth him.

⁹Whoso removeth stones is hurt therewith; he that cleaveth wood is endangered thereby.

¹⁰If the iron be blunt, and one do not whet the edge, then must he apply more strength; but wisdom is profitable to give success.

Amplified Bible

⁸He who digs a pit [for others] may fall into it, and a serpent may bite him who breaks through a [stone] wall.^(A) ⁹He who quarries stones may be hurt with them, and he who splits logs may be endangered by them.^(B) ¹⁰If the axe is dull and he does not sharpen its edge, then he must exert more strength; but wisdom [to sharpen the axe] helps him succeed [with less effort].
