13 Totuşi cel rău nu este fericit şi nu-şi va lungi zilele, fiind precum umbra, pentru că nu se teme de Dumnezeu. 14 Există o deşertăciune care are loc pe pământ, şi anume: sunt oameni drepţi peste care vine ceea ce merită cei răi şi sunt oameni nedrepţi peste care vine ceea ce merită cei drepţi. Prin urmare, mi-am zis: «Şi aceasta este o deşertăciune!»
15 Atunci am lăudat veselia, căci nu este nimic mai plăcut omului sub soare decât să mănânce, să bea şi să se bucure, iar bucuria îl va însoţi în osteneala sa în toate zilele vieţii sale, pe care le-a primit de la Dumnezeu sub soare.

Ecclesiastes 8:13-15
New International Version
13 Yet because the wicked do not fear God,(A) it will not go well with them, and their days(B) will not lengthen like a shadow.
14 There is something else meaningless that occurs on earth: the righteous who get what the wicked deserve, and the wicked who get what the righteous deserve.(C) This too, I say, is meaningless.(D) 15 So I commend the enjoyment of life(E), because there is nothing better for a person under the sun than to eat and drink(F) and be glad.(G) Then joy will accompany them in their toil all the days of the life God has given them under the sun.
