El pacto hecho en Moab
29 [a]Estas son las palabras del pacto que el Señor mandó a Moisés que hiciera con los hijos de Israel en la tierra de Moab(A), además del pacto que Él había hecho con ellos en Horeb(B).
2 [b]Y convocó Moisés a todo Israel y les dijo: Habéis visto todo lo que el Señor hizo delante de vuestros ojos en la tierra de Egipto a Faraón, a todos sus siervos y a toda su tierra, 3 las grandes pruebas que vieron vuestros[c] ojos, aquellas grandes señales y maravillas(C). 4 Pero hasta el día de hoy el Señor no os ha dado corazón para entender, ni ojos para ver, ni oídos para oír(D). 5 Yo os he conducido durante cuarenta años en el desierto; no se han gastado los vestidos sobre vosotros y no se ha gastado la sandalia en vuestro[d] pie(E). 6 No habéis comido pan ni habéis bebido vino ni sidra(F), para que sepáis que yo soy el Señor vuestro Dios. 7 Cuando llegasteis[e] a este lugar, Sehón, rey de Hesbón, y Og, rey de Basán, salieron a nuestro encuentro para pelear, pero los derrotamos[f](G); 8 y tomamos su tierra y la dimos en herencia a los rubenitas, a los gaditas y a la media tribu de Manasés(H). 9 Guardad, pues, las palabras de este pacto y ponedlas en práctica(I), para que prosperéis en todo lo que hagáis(J).
10 Hoy estáis todos vosotros en presencia del Señor vuestro Dios: vuestros jefes[g], vuestras tribus, vuestros ancianos y vuestros oficiales, todos los hombres de Israel, 11 vuestros pequeños, vuestras mujeres, y el forastero que está dentro de tus campamentos, desde tu leñador hasta el que saca tu agua(K), 12 para que entres en el pacto con el Señor tu Dios, y en su juramento que el Señor tu Dios hace hoy contigo, 13 a fin de establecerte hoy como su pueblo y que Él sea tu Dios, tal como te lo ha dicho y como lo juró a tus padres Abraham, Isaac y Jacob(L).
14 Y no hago solo con vosotros este pacto(M) y este juramento, 15 sino también con los que están hoy aquí con nosotros en la presencia del Señor nuestro Dios, y con los que no están hoy aquí con nosotros(N) 16 (pues vosotros sabéis cómo habitamos en la tierra de Egipto y cómo pasamos en medio de las naciones por las cuales habéis pasado, 17 además, habéis visto sus abominaciones y los ídolos de madera y de piedra, de plata y de oro(O), que tenían con ellos); 18 no sea que haya entre vosotros hombre o mujer, familia o tribu, cuyo corazón se aleje hoy del Señor nuestro Dios para ir y servir a los dioses de aquellas naciones(P); no sea que haya entre vosotros una raíz que produzca fruto venenoso(Q) y ajenjo. 19 Y sucederá que cuando él oiga las palabras de esta maldición, se envanecerá[h], diciendo: «Tendré paz aunque ande en la terquedad de mi corazón, a fin de destruir la tierra regada junto con la seca». 20 El Señor jamás querrá perdonarlo, sino que la ira del Señor y su celo arderán[i](R) contra ese hombre, y toda maldición que está escrita en este libro caerá sobre él, y el Señor borrará su nombre de debajo del cielo(S). 21 Entonces el Señor lo señalará para adversidad[j] de entre todas las tribus de Israel, según todas las maldiciones del pacto que están escritas en este libro de la ley(T).
22 Y la generación venidera, vuestros hijos que se levanten después de vosotros y el extranjero que venga de tierra lejana, cuando vean las plagas de la tierra y las enfermedades con las que el Señor la ha afligido[k](U), dirán: 23 «Toda su tierra es azufre, sal y calcinación(V), sin sembrar, nada germina[l] y el pasto no crece en ella, como en la destrucción de Sodoma y Gomorra, de Adma y de Zeboim que el Señor destruyó en su ira y en su furor(W)». 24 Y dirán todas las naciones: «¿Por qué ha hecho así el Señor a esta tierra? ¿Por qué esta gran explosión[m] de ira(X)?». 25 Y los hombres dirán: «Porque abandonaron el pacto que el Señor, el Dios de sus padres, hizo con ellos cuando los sacó de la tierra de Egipto(Y). 26 Y ellos fueron y sirvieron a otros dioses y los adoraron, dioses que no habían conocido y los cuales Él no les había dado[n]. 27 Por eso, ardió la ira del Señor contra aquella tierra, para traer sobre ella toda maldición que está escrita en este libro(Z); 28 y el Señor los desarraigó de su tierra con ira, con furor y con gran enojo, y los arrojó a otra tierra(AA), hasta hoy».
29 Las cosas secretas pertenecen al Señor nuestro Dios(AB), mas las cosas reveladas nos pertenecen a nosotros y a nuestros hijos para siempre, a fin de que guardemos todas las palabras de esta ley(AC).

The Covenant Renewed in Moab
29 These are the words of the covenant which the Lord commanded Moses to make with the children of Israel in the land of Moab, besides the (A)covenant which He made with them in Horeb.
2 Now Moses called all Israel and said to them: (B)“You have seen all that the Lord did before your eyes in the land of Egypt, to Pharaoh and to all his servants and to all his land— 3 (C)the great trials which your eyes have seen, the signs, and those great wonders. 4 Yet (D)the Lord has not given you a heart to [a]perceive and eyes to see and ears to hear, to this very day. 5 (E)And I have led you forty years in the wilderness. (F)Your clothes have not worn out on you, and your sandals have not worn out on your feet. 6 (G)You have not eaten bread, nor have you drunk wine or similar drink, that you may know that I am the Lord your God. 7 And when you came to this place, (H)Sihon king of Heshbon and Og king of Bashan came out against us to battle, and we conquered them. 8 We took their land and (I)gave it as an inheritance to the Reubenites, to the Gadites, and to half the tribe of Manasseh. 9 Therefore (J)keep the words of this covenant, and do them, that you may (K)prosper in all that you do.
10 “All of you stand today before the Lord your God: your leaders and your tribes and your elders and your officers, all the men of Israel, 11 your little ones and your wives—also the stranger who is in your camp, from (L)the one who cuts your wood to the one who draws your water— 12 that you may enter into covenant with the Lord your God, and (M)into His oath, which the Lord your God makes with you today, 13 that He may (N)establish you today as a people for Himself, and that He may be God to you, (O)just as He has spoken to you, and (P)just as He has sworn to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
14 “I make this covenant and this oath, (Q)not with you alone, 15 but with him who stands here with us today before the Lord our God, (R)as well as with him who is not here with us today 16 (for you know that we dwelt in the land of Egypt and that we came through the nations which you passed by, 17 and you saw their [b]abominations and their idols which were among them—wood and stone and silver and gold); 18 so that there may not be among you man or woman or family or tribe, (S)whose heart turns away today from the Lord our God, to go and serve the gods of these nations, (T)and that there may not be among you a root bearing (U)bitterness or wormwood; 19 and so it may not happen, when he hears the words of this curse, that he blesses himself in his heart, saying, ‘I shall have peace, even though I [c]follow the (V)dictates of my heart’—(W)as though the drunkard could be included with the sober.
20 (X)“The Lord would not spare him; for then (Y)the anger of the Lord and (Z)His jealousy would burn against that man, and every curse that is written in this book would settle on him, and the Lord (AA)would blot out his name from under heaven. 21 And the Lord (AB)would separate him from all the tribes of Israel for adversity, according to all the curses of the covenant that are written in this Book of the (AC)Law, 22 so that the coming generation of your children who rise up after you, and the foreigner who comes from a far land, would say, when they (AD)see the plagues of that land and the sicknesses which the Lord has laid on it:
23 ‘The whole land is brimstone, (AE)salt, and burning; it is not sown, nor does it bear, nor does any grass grow there, (AF)like the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, which the Lord overthrew in His anger and His wrath.’ 24 All nations would say, (AG)‘Why has the Lord done so to this land? What does the heat of this great anger mean?’ 25 Then people would say: ‘Because they have forsaken the covenant of the Lord God of their fathers, which He made with them when He brought them out of the land of Egypt; 26 for they went and served other gods and worshiped them, gods that they did not know and that He had not given to them. 27 Then the anger of the Lord was aroused against this land, (AH)to bring on it every curse that is written in this book. 28 And the Lord (AI)uprooted them from their land in anger, in wrath, and in great indignation, and cast them into another land, as it is this day.’
29 “The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but those things which are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.
