⁴¹ You will father sons and daughters, but they will not remain yours, because they will be taken prisoner.

⁹ Our fathers fell by the sword, and our sons, our daughters, and our wives are in captivity because of this.^(A)

⁷ Our guilt has been terrible from the days of our ancestors until the present. Because of our iniquities we have been handed over, along with our kings and priests, to the surrounding kings, and to the sword, captivity, plundering, and open shame,^(A) as it is today.
