13 »Cuando en medio de ti surja algún profeta, o soñador visionario, y te anuncie señales o prodigios, 2 si acaso se cumple la señal o el prodigio anunciado y él te dice: “Vayamos en pos de dioses ajenos, que tú no conoces, y sirvámosles”, 3 no prestes oído a las palabras de tal profeta o soñador visionario. Seguramente el Señor su Dios los está poniendo a prueba, para ver si ustedes aman al Señor su Dios con todo su corazón y con toda su alma. 4 Ustedes deben ir en pos del Señor su Dios, y temerlo sólo a él. Deben cumplir sus mandamientos y atender su voz. Sólo a él deben servir; sólo a él deben seguir. 5 En cuanto a ese profeta o soñador visionario, será condenado a muerte por haberlos aconsejado a rebelarse contra el Señor su Dios. Porque el Señor te sacó de Egipto, te rescató del país donde eras esclavo; en cambio, aquél habrá intentado apartarte del camino que el Señor tu Dios te mandó seguir. Así acabarás con el mal que haya en medio de ti.
6 »Si tu propio hermano, o tu hijo, o tu hija, o tu mujer o tu amigo íntimo, te habla en secreto y te propone ir y servir a dioses ajenos que ni tú ni tus padres conocieron, 7 es decir, los dioses de los pueblos que te rodean, cercanos o lejanos, que hay de un extremo al otro de la tierra, 8 no aceptes su propuesta ni le hagas caso. No lo compadezcas, ni le tengas misericordia ni lo encubras. 9 Al contrario, dale muerte. Y el primero en levantar la mano contra él serás tú, y después de ti levantará la mano todo el pueblo. 10 Apedréalo hasta que muera, por haber intentado apartarte del Señor tu Dios, que te sacó de Egipto, donde eras esclavo. 11 Que todo Israel lo sepa, y sienta temor, y no vuelva a ocurrir en medio de ti nada semejante.
12 »Si en alguna de las ciudades que el Señor tu Dios te da para que las habites llegan a ti rumores 13 de que en medio de ti han surgido hombres impíos que instigan a los habitantes de su ciudad a ir en pos de dioses ajenos, que ustedes nunca conocieron, para servirles, 14 tú debes investigar esto y averiguarlo con diligencia; y si tales rumores resultan ciertos, y tal acción aberrante se ha cometido en tu medio, 15 irremisiblemente matarás a filo de espada a los habitantes de esa ciudad; la destruirás con todo lo que haya en ella, y matarás también sus ganados. 16 Juntarás todos sus despojos en el centro de la plaza, y le prenderás fuego a la ciudad y a todos sus despojos, como holocausto al Señor tu Dios. Y esa ciudad quedará para siempre convertida en un montón de ruinas, y jamás volverá a ser reconstruida. 17 Y tú, no debes retener nada de lo destinado a la destrucción, para que el Señor deponga el ardor de su ira y tenga de ti misericordia, y se compadezca de ti. Entonces te multiplicará, como se lo juró a tus padres, 18 siempre y cuando obedezcas la voz del Señor tu Dios y cumplas todos los mandamientos que hoy te mando cumplir, de hacer lo que es recto a los ojos del Señor tu Dios.

13 “If a prophet or (A)a dreamer of dreams arises among you and gives you a sign or a wonder, 2 and (B)the sign or wonder that he tells you comes to pass, and if he says, ‘Let us go after other gods,’ which you have not known, ‘and let us serve them,’ 3 you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams. For the Lord your God (C)is testing you, to know whether you love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. 4 You shall (D)walk after the Lord your God and fear him and keep his commandments and obey his voice, and you shall serve him and (E)hold fast to him. 5 But (F)that prophet or that dreamer of dreams shall be put to death, because he has taught rebellion against the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt and redeemed you out of the house of slavery, to make you leave the way in which the Lord your God commanded you to walk. (G)So you shall purge the evil[a] from your midst.
6 (H)“If your brother, the son of your mother, or your son or your daughter or (I)the wife you embrace[b] or your friend (J)who is as your own soul entices you secretly, saying, ‘Let us go and serve other gods,’ (K)which neither you nor your fathers have known, 7 some (L)of the gods of the peoples who are around you, whether near you or far off from you, from the one end of the earth to the other, 8 you shall (M)not yield to him or listen to him, nor (N)shall your eye pity him, nor shall you spare him, nor shall you conceal him. 9 But you shall kill him. (O)Your hand shall be first against him to put him to death, and afterward the hand of all the people. 10 (P)You shall stone him to death with stones, because he sought to draw you away from the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. 11 And (Q)all Israel shall hear and fear and never again do any such wickedness as this among you.
12 “If you hear in one of your cities, which the Lord your God is giving you to dwell there, 13 that certain (R)worthless fellows have gone out among you and have drawn away the inhabitants of their city, saying, ‘Let us go and serve other gods,’ which you have not known, 14 then you shall inquire and make search and ask (S)diligently. And behold, if it be true and certain that such an abomination has been done among you, 15 you shall surely put the inhabitants of that city to the sword, devoting it to destruction,[c] all who are in it and its cattle, with the edge of the sword. 16 You shall gather all its spoil into the midst of its open square and (T)burn the city and all its spoil with fire, as a whole burnt offering to the Lord your God. It shall be a (U)heap forever. It shall not be built again. 17 (V)None of the devoted things shall stick to your hand, (W)that the Lord may turn from the fierceness of his anger and show you mercy and have compassion on you and multiply you, (X)as he swore to your fathers, 18 if you obey the voice of the Lord your God, (Y)keeping all his commandments that I am commanding you today, and doing what is right in the sight of the Lord your God.
