¹⁶ If ^(A)a malicious witness arises to accuse a person of wrongdoing,

23 ^(A)“You shall not spread a false report. You shall not join hands with a wicked man to be a ^(B)malicious witness. ² You shall not fall in with the many to do evil, nor shall you bear witness in a lawsuit, siding with the many, so as to pervert justice, ^3 (C)nor shall you be partial to a poor man in his lawsuit.

^4 (D)“If you meet your enemy's ox or his donkey going astray, you shall bring it back to him. ⁵ If you see the donkey of one who hates you lying down under its burden, you shall refrain from leaving him with it; you shall rescue it with him.

^6 (E)“You shall not pervert the justice due to your poor in his lawsuit. ^7 (F)Keep far from a false charge, and ^(G)do not kill the innocent and righteous, for ^(H)I will not acquit the wicked.

¹³ and they ^(A)set up false ^(B)witnesses who said, “This man never ceases to speak words against ^(C)this holy place and the law,

⁵⁵ Now the chief priests and the whole council^[a] were seeking testimony against Jesus to put him to death, but they found none. ^56 (A)For many bore false witness against him, but their testimony ^(B)did not agree. ⁵⁷ And some stood up and bore false witness against him, saying, ^58 (C)“We heard him say, ^(D)‘I will destroy this temple ^(E)that is made with hands, and in three days I will build another, ^(F)not made with hands.’” ⁵⁹ Yet even about this their testimony did not agree.

¹⁰ And set two ^(A)worthless men opposite him, and let them bring a charge against him, saying, ^(B)‘You have cursed^[a] God and the king.’ Then take him out and stone him to death.” ¹¹ And the men of his city, ^(C)the elders and the leaders who lived in his city, did as Jezebel had sent word to them. As it was written in the letters that she had sent to them, ^12 (D)they proclaimed a fast and set Naboth at the head of the people. ¹³ And the two worthless men came in and sat opposite him. And the worthless men brought a charge against Naboth in the presence of the people, saying, “Naboth cursed God and the king.” So they took him outside the city and stoned him to death with stones.
