² Then King Nebuchadnezzar sent to gather ^(A)the satraps, the prefects, and ^(B)the governors, the counselors, the treasurers, the justices, the magistrates, and all the officials of the provinces to come to the dedication of the image that King Nebuchadnezzar had set up.

²⁷ And the ^(A)satraps, the prefects, the governors, and ^(B)the king's counselors gathered together and saw that ^(C)the fire had not had any power over the bodies of those men. The hair of their heads was not singed, their ^(D)cloaks were not harmed, and no smell of fire had come upon them.

Daniel and the Lions' Den

6 It pleased Darius to set over the kingdom ^(A)120 ^(B)satraps, to be throughout the whole kingdom; ² and over them ^(C)three high officials, of whom Daniel was one, to whom these ^(D)satraps should give account, so that the king might suffer no loss.

³ Then this Daniel became ^(A)distinguished above all ^(B)the other high officials and ^(C)satraps, because ^(D)an excellent spirit was in him. And the king planned ^(E)to set him over the whole kingdom. ⁴ Then ^(F)the high officials and ^(G)the satraps ^(H)sought to find a ground for complaint against Daniel with regard to the kingdom, ^(I)but they could find no ground for complaint or any fault, because he was faithful, ^(J)and no error or fault was found in him.

⁶ Then these ^(A)high officials and ^(B)satraps came by agreement^[a] to the king and said to him, “O ^(C)King Darius, live forever! ⁷ All the ^(D)high officials of the kingdom, the prefects and the satraps, the ^(E)counselors and the governors are agreed that the king should establish an ordinance and enforce an ^(F)injunction, that whoever makes petition to any god or man for thirty days, except to you, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions.

^36 (A)They also delivered the king's commissions to the king's ^(B)satraps^[a] and to the governors of the province Beyond the River, and they aided the people and the house of God.
