Daniel 1:6-8

⁶ Now among them from the sons of Judah were ^(A)Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. ⁷ Then the commander of the officials assigned new names to them; and to Daniel he assigned the name ^(B)Belteshazzar, to Hananiah ^(C)Shadrach, to Mishael ^(D)Meshach, and to Azariah ^(E)Abed-nego.

Daniel’s Resolve

⁸ But Daniel ^[a]made up his mind that he would not ^(F)defile himself with the ^(G)king’s choice food or with the ^(H)wine which he drank; so he sought permission from the commander of the officials that he might not defile himself.
