Amos 4
World English Bible
4 Listen to this word, you cows of Bashan, who are on the mountain of Samaria, who oppress the poor, who crush the needy, who tell their husbands, “Bring us drinks!”
2 The Lord Yahweh has sworn by his holiness,
    “Behold, the days shall come on you that they will take you away with hooks,
    and the last of you with fish hooks.
3 You will go out at the breaks in the wall,
    everyone straight before her;
    and you will cast yourselves into Harmon,” says Yahweh.
4 “Go to Bethel, and sin;
    to Gilgal, and sin more.
Bring your sacrifices every morning,
    your tithes every three days,
5     offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving of that which is leavened,
    and proclaim free will offerings and brag about them;
    for this pleases you, you children of Israel,” says the Lord Yahweh.
6 “I also have given you cleanness of teeth in all your cities,
    and lack of bread in every town;
    yet you haven’t returned to me,” says Yahweh.
7 “I also have withheld the rain from you,
    when there were yet three months to the harvest;
    and I caused it to rain on one city,
    and caused it not to rain on another city.
One field was rained on,
    and the field where it didn’t rain withered.
8 So two or three cities staggered to one city to drink water,
    and were not satisfied;
    yet you haven’t returned to me,” says Yahweh.
9 “I struck you with blight and mildew many times in your gardens and your vineyards,
    and the swarming locusts have devoured your fig trees and your olive trees;
    yet you haven’t returned to me,” says Yahweh.
10 “I sent plagues among you like I did Egypt.
    I have slain your young men with the sword,
    and have carried away your horses.
I filled your nostrils with the stench of your camp,
    yet you haven’t returned to me,” says Yahweh.
11 “I have overthrown some of you,
    as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah,
    and you were like a burning stick plucked out of the fire;
    yet you haven’t returned to me,” says Yahweh.
12 “Therefore I will do this to you, Israel;
    because I will do this to you,
    prepare to meet your God, Israel.
13 For, behold, he who forms the mountains, creates the wind, declares to man what is his thought,
    who makes the morning darkness, and treads on the high places of the earth:
    Yahweh, the God of Armies, is his name.”

4 (A) Hör detta ord,
        ni Bashans kor[a]
            på Samarias berg,
    ni kvinnor som förtrycker de svaga
        och krossar de fattiga,
    ni som säger till era män:
        ”Hämta hit så vi får dricka!”
2 (B) Herren Gud har svurit
        vid sin helighet:
    Se, dagar ska drabba er
        då man hämtar er med krokar
    och vad som är kvar av er
        med fiskkrokar.[b]
3 (C) Då ska ni komma ut,
    var och en genom närmaste
        öppning i muren,
    och drivas bort till Hermon,
        säger Herren.
Israels förhärdelse
4 (D) Gå till Betel och synda,
        till Gilgal och synda ännu mer.
    Bär fram era slaktoffer
        på morgonen,
    era tionden på tredje dagen.
5 (E) Bränn syrat bröd[c] som lovoffer,
    ropa ut frivilliga offer,
        kungör dem,
    för sådant älskar ni ju,
        ni Israels barn,
            säger Herren Gud.
6 (F) Jag lät er gå med tomma magar[d]
        i alla era städer
            torkade bort.
8 (H) Två, tre städer stapplade
        till samma stad
    för att få vatten att dricka,
        men kunde inte släcka sin törst.
    Och ändå har ni inte
            vänt om till mig,
        säger Herren.
9 (I) Jag slog er med sot och rost[e].
    Era många trädgårdar, vingårdar,
        fikonträd och olivträd
            åt gräshopporna upp.
    Och ändå har ni inte vänt om
        till mig, säger Herren.
10 (J) Jag sände pest bland er
        som i Egypten.
    Jag dödade era unga män med svärd
        och lät era hästar tas som byte.
    Stanken av era fallna skaror
        lät jag stiga upp i er näsa.
    Och ändå har ni inte
        vänt om till mig, säger Herren.
11 (K) Jag lät ödeläggelse drabba er,
    som när Gud ödelade
        Sodom och Gomorra.
    Ni var som en brand,
        ryckt ur elden.
    Herren Gud Sebaot
        är hans namn.

Amos 4
King James Version
4 Hear this word, ye kine of Bashan, that are in the mountain of Samaria, which oppress the poor, which crush the needy, which say to their masters, Bring, and let us drink.
2 The Lord God hath sworn by his holiness, that, lo, the days shall come upon you, that he will take you away with hooks, and your posterity with fishhooks.
3 And ye shall go out at the breaches, every cow at that which is before her; and ye shall cast them into the palace, saith the Lord.
4 Come to Bethel, and transgress; at Gilgal multiply transgression; and bring your sacrifices every morning, and your tithes after three years:
5 And offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving with leaven, and proclaim and publish the free offerings: for this liketh you, O ye children of Israel, saith the Lord God.
6 And I also have given you cleanness of teeth in all your cities, and want of bread in all your places: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the Lord.
7 And also I have withholden the rain from you, when there were yet three months to the harvest: and I caused it to rain upon one city, and caused it not to rain upon another city: one piece was rained upon, and the piece whereupon it rained not withered.
8 So two or three cities wandered unto one city, to drink water; but they were not satisfied: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the Lord.
9 I have smitten you with blasting and mildew: when your gardens and your vineyards and your fig trees and your olive trees increased, the palmerworm devoured them: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the Lord.
10 I have sent among you the pestilence after the manner of Egypt: your young men have I slain with the sword, and have taken away your horses; and I have made the stink of your camps to come up unto your nostrils: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the Lord.
11 I have overthrown some of you, as God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah, and ye were as a firebrand plucked out of the burning: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the Lord.
12 Therefore thus will I do unto thee, O Israel: and because I will do this unto thee, prepare to meet thy God, O Israel.
13 For, lo, he that formeth the mountains, and createth the wind, and declareth unto man what is his thought, that maketh the morning darkness, and treadeth upon the high places of the earth, The Lord, The God of hosts, is his name.
