Thus saith Hashem: For shloshah peysha’im of Moav, even for arba’ah, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because he burned the bones of Melech Edom into lime;

But I will send an eish upon Moav, and it shall devour the fortresses of Keriyot; and Moav shall die with tumult, with war cries, and with the blast of the shofar;

And I will cut off the shofet (judge) from the midst thereof, and will slay all the sarim (princes) thereof with him, saith Hashem.

Thus saith Hashem: For shloshah peysha’im of Yehudah, even for arba’ah, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they have despised the torat Hashem, and have not been shomer over His chukkim, and their lies caused them to err, after the halakhah of their avot;

But I will send an eish upon Yehudah, and it shall devour the fortresses of Yerushalayim.

Thus saith Hashem: For shloshah peysha’im of Yisroel, even for arba’ah, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they sold the tzaddik for kesef, and the needy for a pair of sandals;

They who pant after the dust of the ground on the rosh of the poor, and turn aside the derech of the anavim; and an ish and his av will go in unto the same na’arah, to commit chillul Hashem against My Shem kodesh;

And they lay themselves down upon clothes taken in pledge by every mizbe’ach, and they guzzle the yayin of the fined in the Beis Eloheichem.

Yet destroyed I HaEmori before them, whose height was like the height of the cedars, and he was strong as the oaks; yet I destroyed his p’ri from above, and his shorashim from beneath.

10 Also I brought you up from Eretz Mitzrayim, and led you arba’im shanah through the midbar, to possess the Eretz HaEmori (land of the Amorite).

11 And I raised up of your banim for nevi’im, and of your bochurim for Nezirim. Is it not even thus, O ye Bnei Yisroel? saith Hashem.

12 But ye gave the Nezirim yayin to drink; and commanded the nevi’im, saying, Prophesy not.

13 Hinei, I am pressed under you, as a cart is pressed that is full of sheaves.

14 Therefore flight shall perish from the swift, and the chazak shall not strengthen his ko’ach, neither shall the gibbor deliver his own nefesh;

15 Neither shall he stand that handleth the keshet; and he that is swift of foot shall not deliver his own nefesh; neither shall he that rideth the sus deliver himself.

16 And he that is courageous among the gibborim shall flee away naked in that Yom, saith Hashem.

A Warning to Moab

This is what the Lord says:

“For three transgressions of Moab
because they[a] cremated the bones of the king of Edom,
    burning them[b] to lime.
So I will send down fire upon Moab,
    and it will devour the fortified citadels of Kerioth.
Moab will die in the uproar of battle,[c]
    with a war cry
        and with the trumpeting of the ram’s horn.
I will execute their rulers among them,
    killing all of their officials as well,”
        says the Lord.

A Warning to Judah

This is what the Lord says:

“For three transgressions of Judah
    —and now for a fourth—
        I will not turn away;
because they[d] rejected the Law of the Lord
    and did not keep his statutes.
Their own lies made them wander off,
    following along the same path their ancestors walked.
So I will send down fire upon Judah,
    and it will devour the fortified citadels of Jerusalem.”

A Warning to Israel

This is what the Lord says:

“For three transgressions of Israel
    —and now for a fourth—
        I will not turn away;
because they sold the righteous for money,
    and the poor for sandals,
moving quickly[e] to rub the face[f] of the needy in the dirt.
Corrupting[g] the ways of the humble,
    a man and his father go to the same woman,
        deliberately defiling my holy name.
They lay down beside every altar,
    on garments pledged as collateral,[h]
drinking wine paid for through fines
    imposed by the temple of their gods.
Yet it was I who destroyed the Amorites in front of them,
    though their height seemed like a cedar,[i]
    though their strength seemed like an oak,
but whose fruit I destroyed from above
    and the roots from beneath.
10 Furthermore, I brought you up from the land of Egypt,
    leading you in the wilderness for 40 years,
        to take possession of the land of the Amorites.
11 I also raised up your sons to be prophets,
    and from your young men I raised up Nazirites.[j]
Is this not true, people of Israel?”
    declares the Lord.
12 “But you forced the Nazirites to drink wine,
    and commanded the prophets,
        ‘You are not to prophesy!’

13 “Oh, how I am burdened down with you,
    as a wagon is overloaded with harvested grain!
14 So the swift runner will not escape,[k]
    the valiant will not fortify his strength,
        and the mighty warrior will not save his life.
15 The skilled archer will not be able to stand,
    the swift runner will not survive,
        and the mounted rider will not preserve his own life.
16 Even the bravest of elite troops will run away naked at that time,”
    declares the Lord.

Judgment on Israel

Thus says the Lord:

(A)“For three transgressions of Moab, and for four,
I will not turn away its punishment,
Because he (B)burned the bones of the king of Edom to lime.
But I will send a fire upon Moab,
And it shall devour the palaces of (C)Kerioth;
Moab shall die with tumult,
With shouting and trumpet sound.
And I will cut off (D)the judge from its midst,
And slay all its princes with him,”
Says the Lord.

Judgment on Judah

Thus says the Lord:

“For three transgressions of (E)Judah, and for four,
I will not turn away its punishment,
(F)Because they have despised the law of the Lord,
And have not kept His commandments.
(G)Their lies lead them astray,
Lies (H)which their fathers followed.
(I)But I will send a fire upon Judah,
And it shall devour the palaces of Jerusalem.”

Judgment on Israel

Thus says the Lord:

“For three transgressions of (J)Israel, and for four,
I will not turn away its punishment,
Because (K)they sell the righteous for silver,
And the (L)poor for a pair of sandals.
They [a]pant after the dust of the earth which is on the head of the poor,
And (M)pervert the way of the humble.
(N)A man and his father go in to the same girl,
(O)To defile My holy name.
They lie down (P)by every altar on clothes (Q)taken in pledge,
And drink the wine of [b]the condemned in the house of their god.

“Yet it was I who destroyed the (R)Amorite before them,
Whose height was like the (S)height of the cedars,
And he was as strong as the oaks;
Yet I (T)destroyed his fruit above
And his roots beneath.
10 Also it was (U)I who brought you up from the land of Egypt,
And (V)led you forty years through the wilderness,
To possess the land of the Amorite.
11 I raised up some of your sons as (W)prophets,
And some of your young men as (X)Nazirites.
Is it not so, O you children of Israel?”
Says the Lord.
12 “But you gave the Nazirites wine to drink,
And commanded the prophets (Y)saying,
‘Do not prophesy!’

13 “Behold,(Z) I am [c]weighed down by you,
As a cart full of sheaves [d]is weighed down.
14 (AA)Therefore [e]flight shall perish from the swift,
The strong shall not strengthen his power,
(AB)Nor shall the mighty [f]deliver himself;
15 He shall not stand who handles the bow,
The swift of foot shall not [g]escape,
Nor shall he who rides a horse deliver himself.
16 The most [h]courageous men of might
Shall flee naked in that day,”
Says the Lord.
