Amos 2:8-10

8 They stretch out beside every altar(A)
on garments taken as collateral,(B)
and in the house of their God
they drink wine obtained through fines.(C)
9 Yet I destroyed the Amorite(D) as Israel advanced;
his height(E) was like the cedars,
and he was as sturdy as the oaks;
I destroyed his fruit(F) above and his roots beneath.
10 And I brought you from the land of Egypt(G)
and led you forty years in the wilderness(H)
in order to possess the land of the Amorite.(I)

8 And they lay themselves down upon clothes laid to pledge by every altar, and they drink the wine of the condemned in the house of their god.
9 Yet destroyed I the Amorite before them, whose height was like the height of the cedars, and he was strong as the oaks; yet I destroyed his fruit from above, and his roots from beneath.
10 Also I brought you up from the land of Egypt, and led you forty years through the wilderness, to possess the land of the Amorite.
