Acts 26:14-16

14 We all fell to the ground, and I heard a voice saying to me in the Hebrew dialect,[a] ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me? It is hard for you to kick against the goads.’[b]

15 “Then I said, ‘Who are you, Lord?’

“The Lord replied, ‘I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. 16 Now get up and stand on your feet, for I have appeared to you for this purpose: to appoint you as a servant and witness to the things you have seen[c] and to the things I will reveal to you.

  1. Acts 26:14 Or Aramaic. The Greek word is Hebrew but likely refers to the Aramaic dialect spoken by the Jews at that time and place.
  2. Acts 26:14 Goads are pointed sticks used to urge or direct an animal. To kick against the goads means to resist stubbornly.
