Timothy Joins Paul and Silas
16 Paul[a] came also to Derbe and to Lystra. A disciple was there, named (A)Timothy, (B)the son of a Jewish woman who was a believer, but his father was a Greek. 2 He was well spoken of by (C)the brothers[b] at Lystra and Iconium. 3 Paul wanted Timothy to accompany him, and he (D)took him and circumcised him because of the Jews who were in those places, for they all knew that his father was a Greek. 4 As they went on their way through the cities, they delivered to them for observance (E)the decisions (F)that had been reached by (G)the apostles and elders who were in Jerusalem. 5 (H)So the churches were strengthened in (I)the faith, and they increased in numbers (J)daily.

8 (A)Whoever gets sense loves his own soul;
he who keeps understanding will (B)discover good.
9 (C)A false witness will not go unpunished,
and he who (D)breathes out lies will perish.
10 (E)It is not fitting for a fool to live in luxury,
much less for (F)a slave to rule over princes.
11 (G)Good sense makes one slow to anger,
and it is his glory to overlook an offense.
12 A king's wrath is like (H)the growling of a lion,
but his (I)favor is like (J)dew on the grass.
13 (K)A foolish son is ruin to his father,
and (L)a wife's quarreling is (M)a continual dripping of rain.
14 (N)House and wealth are inherited from fathers,
but a prudent wife is (O)from the Lord.
15 (P)Slothfulness casts into (Q)a deep sleep,
and (R)an idle person will suffer hunger.
