¹⁹ and he overthrew seven nations in Canaan,^(A) giving their land to his people^(B) as their inheritance.^{(C) 20} All this took about 450 years.

“After this, God gave them judges^(D) until the time of Samuel the prophet.^{(E) 21} Then the people asked for a king,^(F) and he gave them Saul^(G) son of Kish, of the tribe of Benjamin,^(H) who ruled forty years.
