Gott erneuert den Bund mit seinem Volk (Kapitel 27–30)
Das ganze Gesetz auf Gedenksteinen
27 Gemeinsam mit den Sippenoberhäuptern forderte Mose die Israeliten auf: »Haltet euch genau an alle Gebote, die ich euch heute gebe! 2 Wenn ihr den Jordan überquert und in das Land zieht, das der Herr, euer Gott, euch gibt, dann richtet dort große Gedenksteine auf. Streicht sie mit weißer Kalkfarbe an 3 und schreibt das ganze Gesetz Wort für Wort darauf. Wenn ihr das tut, werdet ihr das Land in Besitz nehmen, in dem es selbst Milch und Honig im Überfluss gibt. So hat es der Herr, der Gott eurer Vorfahren, versprochen. 4 Nachdem ihr den Jordan überquert habt, sollt ihr die Gedenksteine weiß anstreichen und auf dem Berg Ebal aufrichten.
5 Baut dort auch einen Altar für den Herrn, euren Gott! Verwendet dazu nur unbehauene Steine, 6 die nicht mit dem Meißel bearbeitet worden sind. Bringt auf dem Altar Brandopfer dar! 7 Schlachtet Tiere für das Friedensopfer, esst sie und feiert in der Gegenwart des Herrn ein fröhliches Fest! 8 Der Altar soll bei den Steintafeln stehen, auf die ihr alle Gebote sorgfältig mit deutlicher Schrift geschrieben habt.«
9 Das ganze Volk war versammelt, als Mose und die Priester vom Stamm Levi sagten: »Seid still und hört zu, ihr Israeliten! Von heute an seid ihr das Volk des Herrn. Ihr gehört nun allein eurem Gott. 10 Darum gehorcht ihm! Lebt nach seinen Geboten und Ordnungen, die ihr heute hört.«
Segen und Fluch
11 Am selben Tag befahl Mose den Israeliten: 12 »Wenn ihr den Jordan überquert habt, sollen sich sechs eurer Stämme auf dem Berg Garizim versammeln: Simeon, Levi, Juda, Issachar, Josef und Benjamin. Sie sollen dort die Segensworte ausrufen. 13 Die Stämme Ruben, Gad, Asser, Sebulon, Dan und Naftali versammeln sich auf dem Berg Ebal und rufen von dort die Fluchworte.
14 Dann sollen die Leviten mit lauter Stimme allen Israeliten zurufen:
15 ›Verflucht ist, wer aus Holz oder Metall eine Götzenstatue anfertigt und sie heimlich aufstellt. Denn sie ist ein Werk von Menschenhand, das der Herr verabscheut.‹
Und das ganze Volk soll antworten: ›So soll es sein!‹
16 Nun rufen die Leviten: ›Verflucht ist, wer seinen Vater oder seine Mutter verachtet!‹
Und das Volk antwortet: ›So soll es sein!‹
17 In dieser Weise sollen die Leviten und das Volk weiter im Wechsel sprechen:
›Verflucht ist, wer seinem Nachbarn Land wegnimmt!‹
›So soll es sein!‹
18 ›Verflucht ist, wer einen Blinden in die Irre führt!‹
›So soll es sein!‹
19 ›Verflucht ist, wer Ausländern, Waisen oder Witwen vor Gericht ihr Recht verweigert!‹
›So soll es sein!‹
20 ›Verflucht ist, wer mit der Frau seines Vaters schläft und ihn damit entehrt!‹
›So soll es sein!‹
21 ›Verflucht ist, wer mit einem Tier verkehrt!‹
›So soll es sein!‹
22 ›Verflucht ist, wer mit seiner Schwester oder Halbschwester schläft!‹
›So soll es sein!‹
23 ›Verflucht ist, wer mit seiner Schwiegermutter schläft!‹
›So soll es sein!‹
24 ›Verflucht ist, wer heimlich jemanden ermordet!‹
›So soll es sein!‹
25 ›Verflucht ist, wer für Geld einen Unschuldigen umbringt!‹
›So soll es sein!‹
26 ›Verflucht ist, wer sich nicht an dieses ganze Gesetz hält und danach lebt!‹
›So soll es sein!‹«

The Altar on Mount Ebal
27 Moses and the elders of Israel commanded the people: “Keep all these commands(A) that I give you today. 2 When you have crossed the Jordan(B) into the land the Lord your God is giving you, set up some large stones(C) and coat them with plaster.(D) 3 Write on them all the words of this law when you have crossed over to enter the land the Lord your God is giving you, a land flowing with milk and honey,(E) just as the Lord, the God of your ancestors, promised you. 4 And when you have crossed the Jordan, set up these stones on Mount Ebal,(F) as I command you today, and coat them with plaster. 5 Build there an altar(G) to the Lord your God, an altar of stones. Do not use any iron tool(H) on them. 6 Build the altar of the Lord your God with fieldstones and offer burnt offerings on it to the Lord your God. 7 Sacrifice fellowship offerings(I) there, eating them and rejoicing(J) in the presence of the Lord your God.(K) 8 And you shall write very clearly all the words of this law on these stones(L) you have set up.”(M)
Curses From Mount Ebal
9 Then Moses and the Levitical(N) priests said to all Israel, “Be silent, Israel, and listen! You have now become the people of the Lord your God.(O) 10 Obey the Lord your God and follow his commands and decrees that I give you today.”
11 On the same day Moses commanded the people:
12 When you have crossed the Jordan, these tribes shall stand on Mount Gerizim(P) to bless the people: Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar,(Q) Joseph and Benjamin.(R) 13 And these tribes shall stand on Mount Ebal(S) to pronounce curses: Reuben, Gad, Asher, Zebulun, Dan and Naphtali.
14 The Levites shall recite to all the people of Israel in a loud voice:
15 “Cursed is anyone who makes an idol(T)—a thing detestable(U) to the Lord, the work of skilled hands—and sets it up in secret.”
Then all the people shall say, “Amen!”(V)
16 “Cursed is anyone who dishonors their father or mother.”(W)
Then all the people shall say, “Amen!”
17 “Cursed is anyone who moves their neighbor’s boundary stone.”(X)
Then all the people shall say, “Amen!”
18 “Cursed is anyone who leads the blind astray on the road.”(Y)
Then all the people shall say, “Amen!”
19 “Cursed is anyone who withholds justice from the foreigner,(Z) the fatherless or the widow.”(AA)
Then all the people shall say, “Amen!”
20 “Cursed is anyone who sleeps with his father’s wife, for he dishonors his father’s bed.”(AB)
Then all the people shall say, “Amen!”
21 “Cursed is anyone who has sexual relations with any animal.”(AC)
Then all the people shall say, “Amen!”
22 “Cursed is anyone who sleeps with his sister, the daughter of his father or the daughter of his mother.”(AD)
Then all the people shall say, “Amen!”
23 “Cursed is anyone who sleeps with his mother-in-law.”(AE)
Then all the people shall say, “Amen!”
24 “Cursed is anyone who kills(AF) their neighbor secretly.”(AG)

25 “Cursed is anyone who accepts a bribe to kill an innocent person.”(AH)
Then all the people shall say, “Amen!”
26 “Cursed is anyone who does not uphold the words of this law by carrying them out.”(AI)

The Law Inscribed on Stones
27 Now Moses, with the elders of Israel, commanded the people, saying: “Keep all the commandments which I command you today. 2 And it shall be, on the day (A)when you cross over the Jordan to the land which the Lord your God is giving you, that (B)you shall set up for yourselves large stones, and whitewash them with lime. 3 You shall write on them all the words of this law, when you have crossed over, that you may enter the land which the Lord your God is giving you, (C)‘a land flowing with milk and honey,’ just as the Lord God of your fathers promised you. 4 Therefore it shall be, when you have crossed over the Jordan, that (D)on Mount Ebal you shall set up these stones, which I command you today, and you shall whitewash them with lime. 5 And there you shall build an altar to the Lord your God, an altar of stones; (E)you shall not use an iron tool on them. 6 You shall build with [a]whole stones the altar of the Lord your God, and offer burnt offerings on it to the Lord your God. 7 You shall offer peace offerings, and shall eat there, and (F)rejoice before the Lord your God. 8 And you shall (G)write very plainly on the stones all the words of this law.”
9 Then Moses and the priests, the Levites, spoke to all Israel, saying, “Take heed and listen, O Israel: (H)This day you have become the people of the Lord your God. 10 Therefore you shall obey the voice of the Lord your God, and observe His commandments and His statutes which I command you today.”
Curses Pronounced from Mount Ebal
11 And Moses commanded the people on the same day, saying, 12 “These shall stand (I)on Mount Gerizim to bless the people, when you have crossed over the Jordan: Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Joseph, and Benjamin; 13 and (J)these shall stand on Mount Ebal to curse: Reuben, Gad, Asher, Zebulun, Dan, and Naphtali.
14 “And (K)the Levites shall speak with a loud voice and say to all the men of Israel: 15 (L)‘Cursed is the one who makes a carved or molded image, [b]an abomination to the Lord, the work of the hands of the craftsman, and sets it up in secret.’
(M)“And all the people shall answer and say, ‘Amen!’
16 (N)‘Cursed is the one who treats his father or his mother with contempt.’
“And all the people shall say, ‘Amen!’
17 (O)‘Cursed is the one who moves his neighbor’s landmark.’

27 Now Moses and the elders of Israel commanded the people, saying, “Keep the whole commandment that I command you today. 2 And on the day (A)you cross over the Jordan to the land that the Lord your God is giving you, you shall set up large stones and plaster them with plaster. 3 (B)And you shall write on them all the words of this law, when you cross over to enter the land that the Lord your God is giving you, (C)a land flowing with milk and honey, as the Lord, the God of your fathers, has promised you. 4 And when you have crossed over the Jordan, you shall set up these stones, concerning which I command you today, (D)on Mount Ebal, and you shall plaster them with plaster. 5 And there you shall build an altar to the Lord your God, an altar of stones. (E)You shall wield no iron tool on them; 6 you shall build an altar to the Lord your God of uncut[a] stones. And you shall offer burnt offerings on it to the Lord your God, 7 and you shall sacrifice peace offerings and (F)shall eat there, and you (G)shall rejoice before the Lord your God. 8 And (H)you shall write on the stones all the words of this law very plainly.”

9 Then Moses and the Levitical priests said to all Israel, “Keep silence and hear, O Israel: (I)this day you have become the people of the Lord your God. 10 You shall therefore obey the voice of the Lord your God, keeping his commandments and his statutes, which I command you today.”
11 That day Moses charged the people, saying, 12 “When you have crossed over the Jordan, (J)these shall stand on Mount Gerizim to bless the people: Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Joseph, and Benjamin. 13 And these shall stand on Mount Ebal for the curse: Reuben, Gad, Asher, Zebulun, Dan, and Naphtali. 14 And (K)the Levites shall declare to all the men of Israel in a loud voice:
15 (L)“‘Cursed be the man who makes a carved or cast metal image, an abomination to the Lord, a thing made by the hands of a craftsman, and sets it up in secret.’ (M)And all the people shall answer and say, ‘Amen.’
16 (N)“‘Cursed be anyone who dishonors his father or his mother.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’
