David and his men fight against Saul's army

Ner's son Abner was the leader of Saul's army. He took Saul's son Ish-Bosheth to Mahanaim. Abner gave Ish-Bosheth authority to rule as king over Gilead, Asher and Jezreel, as well as the tribes of Ephraim and Benjamin. So Ish-Bosheth became king of all Israel.

10 Saul's son, Ish-Bosheth, was 40 years old when he became king over Israel. He ruled Israel for two years. But Judah's people were faithful to David as their king. 11 David remained in Hebron as king of Judah for seven and a half years.

But Abner the son of Ner, captain of Saul's host, took Ishbosheth the son of Saul, and brought him over to Mahanaim;

And made him king over Gilead, and over the Ashurites, and over Jezreel, and over Ephraim, and over Benjamin, and over all Israel.

10 Ishbosheth Saul's son was forty years old when he began to reign over Israel, and reigned two years. But the house of Judah followed David.

11 And the time that David was king in Hebron over the house of Judah was seven years and six months.

Meanwhile, Abner(B) son of Ner, the commander of Saul’s army, had taken Ish-Bosheth(C) son of Saul and brought him over to Mahanaim.(D) He made him king over Gilead,(E) Ashuri(F) and Jezreel, and also over Ephraim, Benjamin and all Israel.(G)
