Asesinato de Isbóset
4 Cuando Isbóset, el hijo de Saúl, se enteró de la muerte de Abner en Hebrón, quedó abatido y cundió la alarma en todo Israel. 2 Isbóset tenía dos jefes de banda: uno se llamaba Baaná y el otro Recab, hijos de Rimón de Beerot, de la tribu de Benjamín, pues también Beerot forma parte de Benjamín. 3 Los de Beerot huyeron a Guitáin y allí siguen como emigrantes hasta el día de hoy.
4 Por otra parte, Jonatán, el hijo de Saúl, tenía un hijo parapléjico. Tenía cinco años cuando llegó de Jezrael la noticia de la muerte de Saúl y Jonatán. La nodriza lo tomó en brazos para huir, pero con las prisas de la huida el niño cayó y quedó cojo. Se llamaba Mefibóset 5 Recab y Baaná, los hijos de Rimón de Beerot, partieron y a la hora más calurosa del día llegaron a la casa de Isbóset, que estaba durmiendo la siesta. 6 La portera se había quedado dormida, mientras limpiaba el trigo, por lo que Recab y su hermano Baaná pasaron sin ser vistos. 7 Entraron en la casa, mientras Isbóset dormía en el lecho de su habitación, lo hirieron mortalmente y lo decapitaron. Luego tomaron la cabeza y caminaron por la Arabá durante toda la noche. 8 Llevaron la cabeza de Isbaal a David, a Hebrón, y dijeron al rey:
— Aquí tienes la cabeza de Isbóset, el hijo de Saúl, tu enemigo que intentó matarte. El Señor ha concedido al rey, mi señor, vengarse hoy de Saúl y de su descendencia.
9 Pero David respondió a Recab y a su hermano Baaná, hijos de Rimón de Beerot:
— ¡Vive el Señor que ha salvado mi vida de todo peligro! 10 Si al que me anunció la muerte de Saúl, creyendo que me daba una buena noticia, yo lo detuve y lo hice matar en Siclag, pagándole así su buena noticia, 11 ahora que unos desalmados habéis matado a un hombre inocente en su propia casa y en su misma cama, ¡os haré pagar su muerte y os borraré del mapa!
12 A una orden de David, sus soldados los mataron, les cortaron las manos y los pies y los colgaron junto a la alberca de Hebrón. Luego recogieron la cabeza de Isbóset y la enterraron en la sepultura de Abner, en Hebrón.

4 And when Saul's son heard that Abner was dead in Hebron, his hands were feeble, and all the Israelites were troubled.
2 And Saul's son had two men that were captains of bands: the name of the one was Baanah, and the name of the other Rechab, the sons of Rimmon a Beerothite, of the children of Benjamin: (for Beeroth also was reckoned to Benjamin.
3 And the Beerothites fled to Gittaim, and were sojourners there until this day.)
4 And Jonathan, Saul's son, had a son that was lame of his feet. He was five years old when the tidings came of Saul and Jonathan out of Jezreel, and his nurse took him up, and fled: and it came to pass, as she made haste to flee, that he fell, and became lame. And his name was Mephibosheth.
5 And the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, Rechab and Baanah, went, and came about the heat of the day to the house of Ishbosheth, who lay on a bed at noon.
6 And they came thither into the midst of the house, as though they would have fetched wheat; and they smote him under the fifth rib: and Rechab and Baanah his brother escaped.
7 For when they came into the house, he lay on his bed in his bedchamber, and they smote him, and slew him, and beheaded him, and took his head, and gat them away through the plain all night.
8 And they brought the head of Ishbosheth unto David to Hebron, and said to the king, Behold the head of Ishbosheth the son of Saul thine enemy, which sought thy life; and the Lord hath avenged my lord the king this day of Saul, and of his seed.
9 And David answered Rechab and Baanah his brother, the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, and said unto them, As the Lord liveth, who hath redeemed my soul out of all adversity,
10 When one told me, saying, Behold, Saul is dead, thinking to have brought good tidings, I took hold of him, and slew him in Ziklag, who thought that I would have given him a reward for his tidings:
11 How much more, when wicked men have slain a righteous person in his own house upon his bed? shall I not therefore now require his blood of your hand, and take you away from the earth?
12 And David commanded his young men, and they slew them, and cut off their hands and their feet, and hanged them up over the pool in Hebron. But they took the head of Ishbosheth, and buried it in the sepulchre of Abner in Hebron.

4 When Saul’s [a]son heard that Abner had died in Hebron, (A)he[b] lost heart, and all Israel was (B)troubled. 2 Now Saul’s son had two men who were captains of troops. The name of one was Baanah and the name of the other Rechab, the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, of the children of Benjamin. (For (C)Beeroth also was [c]part of Benjamin, 3 because the Beerothites fled to (D)Gittaim and have been sojourners there until this day.)
4 (E)Jonathan, Saul’s son, had a son who was lame in his feet. He was five years old when the news about Saul and Jonathan came (F)from Jezreel; and his nurse took him up and fled. And it happened, as she made haste to flee, that he fell and became lame. His name was (G)Mephibosheth.[d]
5 Then the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, Rechab and Baanah, set out and came at about the heat of the day to the (H)house of Ishbosheth, who was lying on his bed at noon. 6 And they came there, all the way into the house, as though to get wheat, and they [e]stabbed him (I)in the stomach. Then Rechab and Baanah his brother escaped. 7 For when they came into the house, he was lying on his bed in his bedroom; then they struck him and killed him, beheaded him and took his head, and were all night escaping through the plain. 8 And they brought the head of Ishbosheth to David at Hebron, and said to the king, “Here is the head of Ishbosheth, the son of Saul your enemy, (J)who sought your life; and the Lord has avenged my lord the king this day of Saul and his descendants.”
9 But David answered Rechab and Baanah his brother, the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, and said to them, “As the Lord lives, (K)who has redeemed my life from all adversity, 10 when (L)someone told me, saying, ‘Look, Saul is dead,’ thinking to have brought good news, I arrested him and had him executed in Ziklag—the one who thought I would give him a reward for his news. 11 How much more, when wicked men have killed a righteous person in his own house on his bed? Therefore, shall I not now (M)require his [f]blood at your hand and [g]remove you from the earth?” 12 So David (N)commanded his young men, and they executed them, cut off their hands and feet, and hanged them by the pool in Hebron. But they took the head of Ishbosheth and buried it in the (O)tomb of Abner in Hebron.

4 When Ish-bosheth, Saul's son, heard that Abner had died at Hebron, (A)his courage failed, and all Israel was dismayed. 2 Now Saul's son had two men who were captains of raiding bands; the name of the one was Baanah, and the name of the other Rechab, sons of Rimmon a man of Benjamin from Beeroth ((B)for Beeroth also is counted part of Benjamin; 3 (C)the Beerothites fled (D)to Gittaim and have been sojourners there to this day).
4 (E)Jonathan, the son of Saul, had a son who was crippled in his feet. He was five years old when the news about Saul and Jonathan (F)came from Jezreel, and his nurse took him up and fled, and as she fled in her haste, he fell and became lame. And his name was Mephibosheth.
5 Now the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, Rechab and Baanah, set out, and about the heat of the day they came to the house of Ish-bosheth as he was taking his noonday rest. 6 And they came into the midst of the house as if to get wheat, and they stabbed him (G)in the stomach. Then Rechab and Baanah his brother escaped.[a] 7 When they came into the house, as he lay on his bed in his bedroom, they struck him and put him to death and beheaded him. They took his head and went by the way of (H)the Arabah all night, 8 and brought the head of Ish-bosheth to David at Hebron. And they said to the king, “Here is the head of Ish-bosheth, the son of Saul, your enemy, (I)who sought your life.
