17 Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and said to me, “Come, I will show you the judgment of the great whore^[a] who is seated on many waters,^(A)

¹⁵ Then from his mouth the serpent poured water like a river after the woman, to sweep her away with the flood.^{(A) 16} But the earth came to the help of the woman; it opened its mouth and swallowed the river that the dragon had poured from his mouth.

³ When they say, “There is peace and security,” then sudden destruction will come upon them, as labor pains come upon a pregnant woman, and there will be no escape!^(A)
