¹⁰ But Absalom, whom we anointed over us, has died in battle. Now therefore, why do you say nothing about bringing back the king?”

¹⁴ Then Joab said, “I cannot linger with you.” And he took three spears in his hand and thrust them through Absalom’s heart, while he was still alive in the midst of the terebinth tree.

¹² Then Absalom sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, ^(A)David’s counselor, from his city—from ^(B)Giloh—while he offered sacrifices. And the conspiracy grew strong, for the people with Absalom ^(C)continually increased in number.

David Escapes from Jerusalem
