Josías, rey de Judá(A)
22 Josías tenía ocho años cuando ascendió al trono, y reinó en Jerusalén treinta y un años. Su madre era Jedidá hija de Adaías, oriunda de Boscat. 2 Josías hizo lo que agrada al Señor, pues en todo siguió el buen ejemplo de su antepasado David; no se desvió de él en el más mínimo detalle.
3 En el año dieciocho de su reinado, el rey Josías mandó a su cronista Safán, hijo de Asalías y nieto de Mesulán, que fuera al templo del Señor. Le dijo: 4 «Preséntate ante el sumo sacerdote Jilquías y encárgale que recoja el dinero que el pueblo ha llevado al templo del Señor y ha entregado a los porteros. 5 Ordena que ahora se les entregue el dinero a los que supervisan la restauración del templo del Señor, para pagarles a los trabajadores que lo están reparando. 6 Que les paguen a los carpinteros, a los maestros de obra y a los albañiles, y que compren madera y piedras de cantería para restaurar el templo. 7 Pero no les pidan cuentas a los que están encargados de pagar, pues ellos proceden con toda honradez».
8 El sumo sacerdote Jilquías le dijo al cronista Safán: «He encontrado el libro de la ley en el templo del Señor». Entonces se lo entregó a Safán, y este, después de leerlo, 9 fue y le informó al rey:
―Tus ministros han recogido el dinero[a] que estaba en el templo del Señor y se lo han entregado a los trabajadores y a los supervisores.
10 El cronista Safán también le informó al rey que el sumo sacerdote Jilquías le había entregado un libro, el cual leyó en su presencia.
11 Cuando el rey oyó las palabras del libro de la ley, se rasgó las vestiduras 12 y dio esta orden a Jilquías el sacerdote, a Ajicán hijo de Safán, a Acbor hijo de Micaías, a Safán el cronista, y a Asaías, su ministro personal:
13 ―Id a consultar al Señor por mí, por el pueblo y por todo Judá con respecto a lo que dice este libro que se ha encontrado. Sin duda que la gran ira del Señor arde contra nosotros, porque nuestros antepasados no obedecieron lo que dice este libro ni actuaron según lo que está prescrito para nosotros.
14 Así que Jilquías el sacerdote, Ajicán, Acbor, Safán y Asaías fueron a consultar a la profetisa Huldá, que vivía en el barrio nuevo de Jerusalén. Huldá era la esposa de Salún, el encargado del vestuario, quien era hijo de Ticvá y nieto de Jarjás.
15 Huldá les contestó: «Así dice el Señor, Dios de Israel: “Decidle al que os ha enviado 16 que yo, el Señor, les advierto: ‘Voy a enviar desgracia sobre este lugar y sus habitantes, según todo lo que dice el libro que ha leído el rey de Judá. 17 Ellos me han abandonado; han quemado incienso a otros dioses y me han provocado a ira con todos sus ídolos.[b] Por eso mi ira arde contra este lugar, y no se apagará’. 18 Pero al rey de Judá, que os envió para consultarme, decidle que en lo que atañe a las palabras que él ha oído, yo, el Señor, Dios de Israel, afirmo: 19 ‘Como te has conmovido y humillado ante el Señor al escuchar lo que he anunciado contra este lugar y sus habitantes, que serían asolados y malditos; y, como te has rasgado las vestiduras y has llorado en mi presencia, yo te he escuchado. Yo, el Señor, lo afirmo. 20 Por lo tanto, te reuniré con tus antepasados, y serás sepultado en paz. Tus ojos no verán la desgracia que enviaré sobre este lugar’ ”».
Así que ellos regresaron para informar al rey.

22 Josiah (B)was eight years old when he became king, and he reigned thirty-one years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Jedidah the daughter of Adaiah of (C)Bozkath. 2 And he did what was right in the sight of the Lord, and walked in all the ways of his father David; he (D)did not turn aside to the right hand or to the left.
Hilkiah Finds the Book of the Law(E)
3 (F)Now it came to pass, in the eighteenth year of King Josiah, that the king sent Shaphan the scribe, the son of Azaliah, the son of Meshullam, to the house of the Lord, saying: 4 “Go up to Hilkiah the high priest, that he may count the money which has been (G)brought into the house of the Lord, which (H)the doorkeepers have gathered from the people. 5 And let them (I)deliver it into the hand of those doing the work, who are the overseers in the house of the Lord; let them give it to those who are in the house of the Lord doing the work, to repair the damages of the house— 6 to carpenters and builders and masons—and to buy timber and hewn stone to repair the house. 7 However (J)there need be no accounting made with them of the money delivered into their hand, because they deal faithfully.”
8 Then Hilkiah the high priest said to Shaphan the scribe, (K)“I have found the Book of the Law in the house of the Lord.” And Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan, and he read it. 9 So Shaphan the scribe went to the king, bringing the king word, saying, “Your servants have [a]gathered the money that was found in the house, and have delivered it into the hand of those who do the work, who oversee the house of the Lord.” 10 Then Shaphan the scribe showed the king, saying, “Hilkiah the priest has given me a book.” And Shaphan read it before the king.
11 Now it happened, when the king heard the words of the Book of the Law, that he tore his clothes. 12 Then the king commanded Hilkiah the priest, (L)Ahikam the son of Shaphan, [b]Achbor the son of Michaiah, Shaphan the scribe, and Asaiah a servant of the king, saying, 13 “Go, inquire of the Lord for me, for the people and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that has been found; for great is (M)the wrath of the Lord that is aroused against us, because our fathers have not obeyed the words of this book, to do according to all that is written concerning us.”
14 So Hilkiah the priest, Ahikam, Achbor, Shaphan, and Asaiah went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of (N)Tikvah, the son of Harhas, keeper of the wardrobe. (She dwelt in Jerusalem in the Second Quarter.) And they spoke with her. 15 Then she said to them, “Thus says the Lord God of Israel, ‘Tell the man who sent you to Me, 16 “Thus says the Lord: ‘Behold, (O)I will bring calamity on this place and on its inhabitants—all the words of the book which the king of Judah has read— 17 (P)because they have forsaken Me and burned incense to other gods, that they might provoke Me to anger with all the works of their hands. Therefore My wrath shall be aroused against this place and shall not be quenched.’ ” ’ 18 But as for (Q)the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of the Lord, in this manner you shall speak to him, ‘Thus says the Lord God of Israel: “Concerning the words which you have heard— 19 because your (R)heart was tender, and you (S)humbled yourself before the Lord when you heard what I spoke against this place and against its inhabitants, that they would become (T)a desolation and (U)a curse, and you tore your clothes and wept before Me, I also have heard you,” says the Lord. 20 “Surely, therefore, I will [c]gather you to your fathers, and you (V)shall [d]be gathered to your grave in peace; and your eyes shall not see all the calamity which I will bring on this place.” ’ ” So they brought back word to the king.

22 (A)Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned thirty-one years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Jedidah the daughter of Adaiah of (B)Bozkath. 2 And he did what was right in the eyes of the Lord and walked in all the way of David his father, (C)and he did not turn aside to the right or to the left.
Josiah Repairs the Temple
3 In the eighteenth year of King Josiah, the king sent Shaphan the son of Azaliah, son of Meshullam, the secretary, to the house of the Lord, saying, 4 “Go up to (D)Hilkiah the high priest, that he may count the money (E)that has been brought into the house of the Lord, which (F)the keepers of the threshold have collected from the people. 5 (G)And let it be given into the hand of the workmen who have the oversight of the house of the Lord, and let them give it to the workmen who are at the house of the Lord, repairing the house 6 (that is, to the carpenters, and to the builders, and to the masons), and let them use it for buying timber and quarried stone to repair the house. 7 But (H)no accounting shall be asked from them for the money that is delivered into their hand, for they deal honestly.”
Hilkiah Finds the Book of the Law
8 And Hilkiah the high priest said to Shaphan the secretary, “I have found (I)the Book of the Law in the house of the Lord.” And Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan, and he read it. 9 And Shaphan the secretary came to the king, and reported to the king, “Your servants have emptied out the money that was found in the house and have delivered it into the hand of the workmen who have the oversight of the house of the Lord.” 10 Then Shaphan the secretary told the king, “Hilkiah the priest has given me a book.” And Shaphan read it before the king.
11 When the king heard the words of the Book of the Law, (J)he tore his clothes. 12 And the king commanded Hilkiah the priest, and (K)Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and (L)Achbor the son of (M)Micaiah, and Shaphan the secretary, and Asaiah the king's servant, saying, 13 “Go, inquire of the Lord for me, and for the people, and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that has been found.
