26 Il re di Moab, vedendo che la battaglia era troppo forte per lui, prese con sé settecento uomini che brandivano la spada, per aprirsi un varco fino al re di Edom; ma non poterono.

27 Allora prese il suo figlio primogenito, che avrebbe dovuto regnare al suo posto, e l'offerse in olocausto sopra le mura. Vi fu allora grande indignazione contro quei d'Israele, che si allontanarono da lui e ritornarono al loro paese.

26 When the king of Moab saw that the battle had gone against him, he took with him seven hundred swordsmen to break through to the king of Edom, but they failed. 27 Then he took his firstborn(A) son, who was to succeed him as king, and offered him as a sacrifice on the city wall. The fury against Israel was great; they withdrew and returned to their own land.
