The group of prophets at Jericho came to Elisha and said to him, “Do you know that the Lord will take your master away from you today?”

Elisha answered, “Yes, I know. Don’t talk about it.”

Elijah said to Elisha, “Please stay here, because the Lord told me to go to the Jordan River.”

Elisha answered, “I promise, as the Lord lives and as you live, I will not leave you!” So the two men went on.

There were 50 men from the group of prophets who followed them. Elijah and Elisha stopped at the Jordan River. The 50 men stood far away from Elijah and Elisha.

Ook in Jericho zeiden de jonge profeten tegen Elisa: ‘Weet u dat de Here Elia vandaag van u zal wegnemen?’ En Elisa antwoordde: ‘Stil maar, ik weet het.’ 6,7 Elia zei tegen Elisa: ‘Blijf nu maar hier, want de Here wil dat ik naar de Jordaan ga.’ Maar net als de vorige keren zei Elisa: ‘Ik zweer bij God dat ik u niet zal verlaten.’ Zij gingen samen op weg en stonden na enige tijd bij de Jordaan. Van een afstand keken vijftig jonge profeten naar wat ging gebeuren.

The company(A) of the prophets at Jericho went up to Elisha and asked him, “Do you know that the Lord is going to take your master from you today?”

“Yes, I know,” he replied, “so be quiet.”

Then Elijah said to him, “Stay here;(B) the Lord has sent me to the Jordan.”(C)

And he replied, “As surely as the Lord lives and as you live, I will not leave you.”(D) So the two of them walked on.

Fifty men from the company of the prophets went and stood at a distance, facing the place where Elijah and Elisha had stopped at the Jordan.
