14 En el año segundo de Joás hijo de Joacaz rey de Israel, comenzó a reinar Amasías hijo de Joás rey de Judá.
2 Cuando comenzó a reinar era de veinticinco años, y veintinueve años reinó en Jerusalén; el nombre de su madre fue Joadán, de Jerusalén.
3 Y él hizo lo recto ante los ojos del SEÑOR, aunque no como David su padre; hizo conforme a todas las cosas que había hecho Joás su padre.
4 Con todo eso los lugares altos no fueron quitados; porque el pueblo aun sacrificaba y quemaba incienso en los lugares altos.
5 Y cuando el reino fue confirmado en su mano, hirió a sus esclavos, los que habían dado muerte al rey su padre.
6 Mas no mató a los hijos de los que le mataron, conforme a lo que está escrito en el libro de la ley de Moisés, donde el SEÑOR mandó, diciendo: No matarán a los padres por los hijos, ni a los hijos por los padres; mas cada uno morirá por su pecado.
7 Este también hirió diez mil idumeos en el valle de las Salinas, y tomó a Sela {Heb. la piedra} por guerra, y la llamó Jocteel, hasta hoy.
8 Entonces Amasías envió embajadores a Joás, hijo de Joacaz hijo de Jehú, rey de Israel, diciendo: Ven, y veámonos de rostro.
9 ¶ Y Joás rey de Israel envió a Amasías rey de Judá esta respuesta: El cardillo que está en el Líbano envió a decir al gran cedro que está en el Líbano: Da tu hija por mujer a mi hijo. Y pasaron las bestias fieras que están en el Líbano, y hollaron el cardillo.
10 Ciertamente has herido a Edom, y tu corazón te ha envanecido; gloríate pues, mas estate en tu casa. ¿Para qué te entremeterás en un mal, para que caigas tú, y Judá contigo?
11 Mas Amasías no dio oídos; y subió Joás rey de Israel, y se vieron de rostro él y Amasías rey de Judá, en Bet-semes, que es en Judá.
12 Mas Judá cayó delante de Israel, y huyeron cada uno a sus estancias.
13 Además Joás rey de Israel tomó a Amasías rey de Judá, hijo de Joás, hijo de Ocozías, en Bet-semes; y vino a Jerusalén, y rompió el muro de Jerusalén desde la puerta de Efraín hasta la puerta de la esquina, cuatrocientos codos.
14 Y tomó todo el oro, y la plata, y todos los vasos que fueron hallados en la Casa del SEÑOR, y en los tesoros de la casa del rey, y los hijos en rehenes, y se volvió a Samaria.
15 Los demás hechos de Joás que hizo, y sus valentías, y cómo peleó contra Amasías rey de Judá, ¿no está todo escrito en el libro de las crónicas de los reyes de Israel?
16 Y durmió Joás con sus padres, y fue sepultado en Samaria con los reyes de Israel; y reinó en su lugar Jeroboam su hijo.
17 ¶ Y Amasías hijo de Joás rey de Judá, vivió después de la muerte de Joás hijo de Joacaz rey de Israel, quince años.
18 Los demás hechos de Amasías, ¿no está todo escrito en el libro de las crónicas de los reyes de Judá?
19 E hicieron conspiración contra él en Jerusalén, y huyendo él a Laquis, enviaron tras él a Laquis, y allá lo mataron.
20 Lo trajeron luego sobre caballos, y lo sepultaron en Jerusalén con sus padres, en la ciudad de David.
21 Entonces todo el pueblo de Judá tomó a Azarías, que era de dieciséis años, y lo hicieron rey en lugar de Amasías su padre.
22 Edificó él a Elat, y la restituyó a Judá, después que el rey durmió con sus padres.
23 El año quince de Amasías hijo de Joás rey de Judá, comenzó a reinar Jeroboam hijo de Joás sobre Israel en Samaria; y reinó cuarenta y un años.
24 E hizo lo malo ante los ojos del SEÑOR, y no se apartó de todos los pecados de Jeroboam hijo de Nabat, el que hizo pecar a Israel.
25 El restituyó los términos de Israel desde la entrada de Hamat hasta el mar de la llanura, conforme a la palabra del SEÑOR Dios de Israel, la cual había él hablado por su esclavo Jonás hijo de Amitai, profeta que fue de Gat-hefer.
26 Por cuanto el SEÑOR miró la muy amarga aflicción de Israel; que no había nadie guardado ni quedado, ni quien diera ayuda a Israel;
27 y el SEÑOR no había aún determinado raer el nombre de Israel de debajo del cielo; por tanto, los salvó por mano de Jeroboam hijo de Joás.
28 Y los demás hechos de Jeroboam, y todas las cosas que hizo, y su valentía, y todas las guerras que hizo, y cómo restituyó a Judá en Israel a Damasco y a Hamat, ¿no está escrito en el libro de las crónicas de los reyes de Israel?
29 Y durmió Jeroboam con sus padres, los reyes de Israel, y reinó en su lugar Zacarías su hijo.

Amaziah Reigns in Judah(A)
14 In (B)the second year of Joash the son of Jehoahaz, king of Israel, (C)Amaziah the son of Joash, king of Judah, became king. 2 He was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Jehoaddan of Jerusalem. 3 And he did what was right in the sight of the Lord, yet not like his father David; he did everything (D)as his father Joash had done. 4 (E)However the [a]high places were not taken away, and the people still sacrificed and burned incense on the high places.
5 Now it happened, as soon as the kingdom was established in his hand, that he executed his servants (F)who had murdered his father the king. 6 But the children of the murderers he did not execute, according to what is written in the Book of the Law of Moses, in which the Lord commanded, saying, (G)“Fathers shall not be put to death for their children, nor shall children be put to death for their fathers; but a person shall be put to death for his own sin.”
7 (H)He killed ten thousand Edomites in (I)the Valley of Salt, and took [b]Sela by war, (J)and called its name Joktheel to this day.
8 (K)Then Amaziah sent messengers to [c]Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz, the son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, “Come, let us face one another in battle.” 9 And Jehoash king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, (L)“The thistle that was in Lebanon sent to the (M)cedar that was in Lebanon, saying, ‘Give your daughter to my son as wife’; and a wild beast that was in Lebanon passed by and trampled the thistle. 10 You have indeed defeated Edom, and (N)your heart has [d]lifted you up. Glory in that, and stay at home; for why should you meddle with trouble so that you fall—you and Judah with you?”
11 But Amaziah would not heed. Therefore Jehoash king of Israel went out; so he and Amaziah king of Judah faced one another at (O)Beth Shemesh, which belongs to Judah. 12 And Judah was defeated by Israel, and every man fled to his tent. 13 Then Jehoash king of Israel captured Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Jehoash, the son of Ahaziah, at Beth Shemesh; and he went to Jerusalem, and broke down the wall of Jerusalem from (P)the Gate of Ephraim to (Q)the Corner Gate—[e]four hundred cubits. 14 And he took all (R)the gold and silver, all the articles that were found in the house of the Lord and in the treasuries of the king’s house, and hostages, and returned to Samaria.
15 (S)Now the rest of the acts of Jehoash which he did—his might, and how he fought with Amaziah king of Judah—are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel? 16 So Jehoash [f]rested with his fathers, and was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel. Then Jeroboam his son reigned in his place.
17 (T)Amaziah the son of Joash, king of Judah, lived fifteen years after the death of Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz, king of Israel. 18 Now the rest of the acts of Amaziah, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? 19 And (U)they formed a conspiracy against him in Jerusalem, and he fled to (V)Lachish; but they sent after him to Lachish and killed him there. 20 Then they brought him on horses, and he was buried at Jerusalem with his fathers in the City of David.
21 And all the people of Judah took (W)Azariah,[g] who was sixteen years old, and made him king instead of his father Amaziah. 22 He built (X)Elath[h] and restored it to Judah, after [i]the king rested with his fathers.
Jeroboam II Reigns in Israel
23 In the fifteenth year of Amaziah the son of Joash, king of Judah, Jeroboam the son of Joash, king of Israel, became king in Samaria, and reigned forty-one years. 24 And he did evil in the sight of the Lord; he did not depart from all the (Y)sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who had made Israel sin. 25 He (Z)restored the [j]territory of Israel (AA)from the entrance of Hamath to (AB)the[k] Sea of the Arabah, according to the word of the Lord God of Israel, which He had spoken through His servant (AC)Jonah the son of Amittai, the prophet who was from (AD)Gath Hepher. 26 For the Lord (AE)saw that the affliction of Israel was very bitter; and whether bond or free, (AF)there was no helper for Israel. 27 (AG)And the Lord did not say that He would blot out the name of Israel from under heaven; but He saved them by the hand of Jeroboam the son of Joash.
28 Now the rest of the acts of Jeroboam, and all that he did—his might, how he made war, and how he recaptured for Israel, from (AH)Damascus and Hamath, (AI)what had belonged to Judah—are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel? 29 So Jeroboam [l]rested with his fathers, the kings of Israel. Then (AJ)Zechariah his son reigned in his place.
