²⁰ In his days Edom revolted against the rule of Judah and set up a king of their own.^(A)

⁴⁷ There was no king in Edom; a deputy was king.^(A)

⁹ So the king of Israel, the king of Judah, and the king of Edom set out, and when they had made a roundabout march of seven days, there was no water for the army or for the animals that were with them.^(A)

²² So Edom has been in revolt against the rule of Judah to this day. Libnah also revolted at the same time.^(A)

²⁷ Then he took his firstborn son who was to succeed him and offered him as a burnt offering on the wall. And great wrath came upon Israel, so they withdrew from him and returned to their own land.^(A)

Revolt of Edom

⁸ In his days Edom revolted against the rule of Judah and set up a king of their own.^{(A) 9} Then Jehoram crossed over with his commanders and all his chariots. He set out by night and attacked the Edomites, who had surrounded him and his chariot commanders. ¹⁰ So Edom has been in revolt against the rule of Judah to this day. At that time Libnah also revolted against his rule because he had forsaken the Lord, the God of his ancestors.

¹⁴ He put garrisons in Edom; throughout all Edom he put garrisons, and all the Edomites became David’s servants. And the Lord gave victory to David wherever he went.^(A)
