¹⁸ The covered portal for use on the Sabbath that had been built inside the palace and the outer entrance for the king he removed from^[a] the house of the Lord. He did this because of the king of Assyria.

² The prince shall enter by the vestibule of the gate from outside and shall take his stand by the post of the gate. The priests shall offer his burnt offering and his offerings of well-being, and he shall bow down at the entryway of the gate. Then he shall go out, but the gate shall not be closed until evening.^(A)

⁵ He commanded them, “This is what you are to do: one-third of you, those who go off duty on the Sabbath and guard the king’s house^(A)
