Worshipers of Baal Killed

¹⁸ Then Jehu gathered all the people together, and said to them, ^(A)“Ahab served Baal a little, Jehu will serve him much.

³¹ And it came to pass, as though it had been a trivial thing for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, ^(A)that he took as wife Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal, king of the ^(B)Sidonians; ^(C)and he went and served Baal and worshiped him. ³² Then he set up an altar for Baal in ^(D)the temple of Baal, which he had built in Samaria.

Meditate on These Things

⁸ Finally, brethren, whatever things are ^(A)true, whatever things are ^(B)noble, whatever things are ^(C)just, ^(D)whatever things are pure, whatever things are ^(E)lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.

⁸ And why not say, ^(A)“Let us do evil that good may come”?—as we are slanderously reported and as some affirm that we say. Their ^[a]condemnation is just.

² And he did evil in the sight of the Lord, but not like his father and mother; for he put away the sacred pillar of Baal ^(A)that his father had made.

⁴⁰ And Elijah said to them, ^(A)“Seize the prophets of Baal! Do not let one of them escape!” So they seized them; and Elijah brought them down to the Brook ^(B)Kishon and ^(C)executed them there.

²² Then Elijah said to the people, ^(A)“I alone am left a prophet of the Lord; ^(B)but Baal’s prophets are four hundred and fifty men.

¹⁹ Now therefore, send and gather all Israel to me on ^(A)Mount Carmel, the four hundred and fifty prophets of Baal, ^(B)and the four hundred prophets of ^[a]Asherah, who ^[b]eat at Jezebel’s table.”
