¹⁶ But they kept ridiculing God’s messengers,^(A) despising his words,^(B) and scoffing at his prophets, until the Lord’s wrath was so stirred up against his people that there was no remedy.^(C)

¹² Be glad and rejoice, because your reward is great in heaven. For that is how they persecuted^(A) the prophets who were before you.^(B)

³⁵ The farmers took his servants, beat one, killed another, and stoned a third.^(A)

³¹ So you testify against yourselves that you are descendants of those who murdered the prophets.
