he decided with his officers and his warriors to cut off the supply of water from the springs which were outside the city, and they helped him. So many people assembled (A)and stopped up all the springs and (B)the stream which flowed [a]through the region, saying, “Why should the kings of Assyria come and find abundant water?” And he resolutely set to work and (C)rebuilt all of the wall that had been broken down and [b]erected towers on it, and built (D)another outside wall and strengthened the [c](E)Millo in the city of David, and made weapons and shields in great numbers.

he consulted with his officials and military staff about blocking off the water from the springs outside the city, and they helped him. They gathered a large group of people who blocked all the springs(A) and the stream that flowed through the land. “Why should the kings[a] of Assyria come and find plenty of water?” they said. Then he worked hard repairing all the broken sections of the wall(B) and building towers on it. He built another wall outside that one and reinforced the terraces[b](C) of the City of David. He also made large numbers of weapons(D) and shields.
