⁶ “Inasmuch as these people have ^(A)rejected the gently flowing waters of Shiloah
And rejoice in ^(B)Rezin and the son of Remaliah;
⁷ “Now therefore, behold, the Lord is about to bring on them the ^(C)strong and abundant waters of the ^[a](D)Euphrates,
Even the ^(E)king of Assyria and all his glory;
And it will ^(F)rise up over all its channels and go over all its banks.
⁸ “Then ^(G)it will sweep on into Judah, it will overflow and pass through,
It will ^(H)reach even to the neck;
And the spread of its wings will ^[b]fill the breadth of ^[c]your land, O ^(I)Immanuel.

“^(A)Since you have rejected this word
And have put your trust in ^(B)oppression and guile, and have relied on them,
¹³ Therefore this ^(C)iniquity will be to you
Like a ^(D)breach about to fall,
A bulge in a high wall,
Whose collapse comes ^(E)suddenly in an instant,
¹⁴ Whose collapse is like the smashing of a ^(F)potter’s jar,
^[a]So ruthlessly shattered
That a sherd will not be found among its pieces
To ^[b]take fire from a hearth
Or to scoop water from a cistern.”
