^15 (A)Eden, Miniamin, Jeshua, Shemaiah, Amariah, and Shecaniah were faithfully assisting him in ^(B)the cities of the priests, to distribute the portions to their brothers, old and young alike, by divisions,

⁹ Out of the tribe of the people of Judah and the tribe of the people of Simeon they gave the following cities mentioned by name, ¹⁰ which went to ^(A)the descendants of Aaron, one of the clans of the Kohathites who belonged to the people of Levi; since the lot fell to them first. ^11 (B)They gave them ^(C)Kiriath-arba (Arba being the father of Anak), that is Hebron, ^(D)in the hill country of Judah, along with the pasturelands around it. ¹² But the fields of the city and its villages had been given to Caleb the son of Jephunneh as his possession.

¹³ And to the descendants of Aaron the priest they gave Hebron, ^(E)the city of refuge for the manslayer, with its pasturelands, ^(F)Libnah with its pasturelands, ¹⁴ Jattir with its pasturelands, Eshtemoa with its pasturelands, ¹⁵ Holon with its pasturelands, Debir with its pasturelands, ¹⁶ Ain with its pasturelands, Juttah with its pasturelands, Beth-shemesh with its pasturelands—nine cities out of these two tribes; ¹⁷ then out of the tribe of Benjamin, ^(G)Gibeon with its pasturelands, Geba with its pasturelands, ¹⁸ Anathoth with its pasturelands, and Almon with its pasturelands—four cities. ¹⁹ The cities of the descendants of Aaron, the priests, were in all thirteen cities with their pasturelands.

^13 (A)while Jehiel, Azaziah, Nahath, Asahel, Jerimoth, Jozabad, Eliel, Ismachiah, ^(B)Mahath, and Benaiah were overseers assisting Conaniah and Shimei his brother, by the appointment of Hezekiah the king and ^(C)Azariah the chief officer of the house of God.

¹² Then the Levites arose, ^(A)Mahath the son of Amasai, and Joel the son of Azariah, of the sons of ^(B)the Kohathites; and of the sons of ^(C)Merari, Kish the son of Abdi, and Azariah the son of Jehallelel; and of the ^(D)Gershonites, Joah the son of Zimmah, and Eden the son of Joah;

⁸ And they cast lots for their duties, ^(A)small and great, teacher and pupil alike.

²² All these, who were chosen as gatekeepers at the thresholds, were 212. They were enrolled by genealogies in their villages. ^(A)David and Samuel ^(B)the seer established them in their office of trust.

⁵⁴ These are their dwelling places according to their ^(A)settlements within their borders: to the sons of Aaron of the ^(B)clans of Kohathites, for theirs was the first lot, ⁵⁵ to them they gave Hebron in the land of Judah and its surrounding pasturelands, ^56 (C)but the fields of the city and its villages they gave to Caleb the son of Jephunneh. ^57 (D)To the sons of Aaron they gave the cities of refuge: Hebron, Libnah with its pasturelands, Jattir, Eshtemoa with its pasturelands, ⁵⁸ Hilen with its pasturelands, Debir with its pasturelands, ⁵⁹ Ashan with its pasturelands, and Beth-shemesh with its pasturelands; ⁶⁰ and from the tribe of Benjamin, Gibeon,^[a] Geba with its pasturelands, Alemeth with its pasturelands, and Anathoth with its pasturelands. All their cities throughout their clans were thirteen.
