^19 (A)Yet he sent prophets among them to bring them back to the Lord. ^(B)These testified against them, but they would not pay attention.

The Parable of the Wicked Tenants

^9 (A)And he began to tell the people this parable: “A man planted ^(B)a vineyard and ^(C)let it out to tenants and ^(D)went into another country for a long while. ¹⁰ When the time came, he sent a servant^[a] to the tenants, so that ^(E)they would give him some of the fruit of the vineyard. ^(F)But the tenants beat him and sent him away empty-handed. ^11 (G)And ^(H)he sent another servant. But they also beat and ^(I)treated him shamefully, and sent him away empty-handed. ^12 (J)And he sent yet a third. This one also they wounded and cast out. ¹³ Then the owner of the vineyard said, ‘What shall I do? I will send my ^(K)beloved son; perhaps they will respect him.’ ¹⁴ But when the tenants saw him, they said to themselves, ^(L)‘This is the heir. ^(M)Let us kill him, so that the inheritance may be ours.’ ¹⁵ And they ^(N)threw him out of the vineyard and killed him. What then will the owner of the vineyard do to them?

³¹ He said to him, ‘If they do not hear ^(A)Moses and the Prophets, ^(B)neither will they be convinced if someone should rise from the dead.’”

^47 (A)Woe to you! For you build the tombs of the prophets whom your fathers killed. ^48 (B)So you are witnesses and you ^(C)consent to the deeds of ^(D)your fathers, for they killed them, and you build their tombs. ⁴⁹ Therefore also ^(E)the Wisdom of God said, ^(F)‘I will send them ^(G)prophets and apostles, ^(H)some of whom they will ^(I)kill and persecute,’ ⁵⁰ so that ^(J)the blood of all the prophets, shed ^(K)from the foundation of the world, may be ^(L)charged against this generation, ⁵¹ from the blood of ^(M)Abel to the blood of ^(N)Zechariah, who perished between ^(O)the altar and the sanctuary. Yes, I tell you, it will be ^(P)required of this generation.

¹⁶ But ^(E)blessed are your eyes, for they see, and your ears, for they hear.

^9 (A)He who has ears,^[a] let him hear.”

^4 (A)Yet I persistently sent to you all my servants the prophets, saying, ‘Oh, do not do this abomination that I hate!’ ^5 (B)But they did not listen ^(C)or incline their ear, to turn from their evil and make no offerings to other gods.

^5 (A)and to listen to the words of my servants the prophets whom I send to you ^(B)urgently, ^(C)though you have not listened,

^4 (A)You have neither listened nor inclined your ears to hear, although the Lord ^(B)persistently sent to you all his servants the prophets, ⁵ saying, ^(C)‘Turn now, every one of you, ^(D)from his evil way and evil deeds, and ^(E)dwell upon the land that the Lord has given to you and your fathers from of old and forever.
