³ On the ninth day of the fourth month ^(A)the famine was so strong in the city that there was no food for the people of the land.

Yahweh Will Judge Judah’s Leaders

⁹ “My lord the king, these men have done evil in all that they have done to Jeremiah the prophet whom they have cast into the cistern; and he ^[a]will die right where he is because of the famine, for there is ^(A)no more bread in the city.”

¹⁶ Moreover, He said to me, “Son of man, behold, I am going to ^(A)break the staff of bread in Jerusalem, and they will eat bread by ^(B)weight and with anxiety, and they will drink water by ^(C)measure and in desolation

¹⁶ When I send against them the ^[a]deadly arrows of famine which ^[b]were for the destruction of those whom I will send to destroy you, then I will also intensify the famine upon you and break the staff of bread.

¹³ “Son of man, if a country sins against Me by ^(A)committing unfaithfulness, and I stretch out My hand against it, break its ^(B)staff of bread, send famine against it, and cut off from it both man and beast,
