6 He must not be a recent convert,[a] or he may be puffed up with conceit and fall into the condemnation of the devil. 7 Moreover, he must be well thought of by outsiders, so that he may not fall into disgrace and the snare of the devil.(A)

8 Deacons likewise must be serious, not double-tongued, not indulging in much wine, not greedy for money;(B)

6 He must not be a recent convert, or he may become conceited(A) and fall under the same judgment(B) as the devil. 7 He must also have a good reputation with outsiders,(C) so that he will not fall into disgrace and into the devil’s trap.(D)
8 In the same way, deacons[a](E) are to be worthy of respect, sincere, not indulging in much wine,(F) and not pursuing dishonest gain.
