¹¹ But when the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead heard what the Philistines had done to Saul,^{(A) 12} all the valiant men set out, traveled all night long, and took the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Beth-shan. They came to Jabesh and burned them there.^{(B) 13} Then they took their bones and buried them under the tamarisk tree in Jabesh and fasted seven days.^(C)

³ So all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, and King David made a covenant with them at Hebron before the Lord, and they anointed David king over Israel.^(A)

⁵ At Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months, and at Jerusalem he reigned over all Israel and Judah thirty-three years.^(A)
