¹⁰ Also the Philistine said, “I defy the army of Israel this day! Give me a man, so that we may fight together!”

¹¹ When Saul and all Israel heard those words of the Philistine, they were discouraged, and greatly afraid.

¹² Now, this David was the son of an Ephrathite of Bethlehem Judah, named Jesse, who had eight sons. And this man was taken for an old man in the days of Saul.
