¹³ So Samuel took the horn of oil, anointed him^(A) in the presence of his brothers, and the Spirit of the Lord took control of David from that day forward.^(B) Then Samuel set out and went to Ramah.

⁹ But David said to Abishai, “Don’t destroy him, for who can lift a hand against the Lord’s anointed and be blameless?”^(A)

¹⁴ David questioned him, “How is it that you were not afraid to lift your hand to destroy the Lord’s anointed?”^(A)
