⁴¹ Therefore Saul said, “O Lord God of Israel, why have you not answered your servant this day? If this guilt is in me or in Jonathan my son, O Lord, God of Israel, give Urim. But if this guilt is in your people Israel, give Thummim.”^{[a] (A)}And Jonathan and Saul were taken, but the people escaped.

²⁴ And ^(A)they prayed and said, “You, Lord, ^(B)who know the hearts of all, show which one of these two you have chosen

²⁰ Then Samuel ^(A)brought all the tribes of Israel near, and the tribe of Benjamin was taken by lot. ²¹ He brought the tribe of Benjamin near by its clans, and the clan of the Matrites was taken by lot;^[a] and Saul the son of Kish was taken by lot. But when they sought him, he could not be found.

¹⁶ So Joshua rose early in the morning and brought Israel near tribe by tribe, and the tribe of Judah was taken. ¹⁷ And he brought near the clans of Judah, and the clan of the ^(A)Zerahites was taken. And he brought near the clan of the Zerahites man by man, and Zabdi was taken. ¹⁸ And he brought near his household man by man, and Achan the son of Carmi, son of Zabdi, son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, was taken.

Jonah Is Thrown into the Sea

⁷ And they said to one another, “Come, let us ^(A)cast lots, that we may know on whose account this evil has come upon us.” So they cast lots, and the lot fell on Jonah.
