⁴¹ After the boy had gone, David got up from the south side of the stone and bowed down before Jonathan three times, with his face to the ground.^(A) Then they kissed each other and wept together—but David wept the most.

³ And Jonathan made a covenant^(A) with David because he loved him as himself.

¹¹ Then Jacob kissed^(A) Rachel and began to weep aloud.^(B)

³⁷ They all wept as they embraced him and kissed him.^(A)

³⁹ So all the people crossed the Jordan, and then the king crossed over. The king kissed Barzillai and bid him farewell,^(A) and Barzillai returned to his home.

⁶ When Mephibosheth son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, came to David, he bowed down to pay him honor.^(A)

David said, “Mephibosheth!”

“At your service,” he replied.

²³ When Abigail saw David, she quickly got off her donkey and bowed down before David with her face to the ground.^(A)

10 Then Samuel took a flask^(A) of olive oil and poured it on Saul’s head and kissed him, saying, “Has not the Lord anointed^(B) you ruler over his inheritance?^[a](C)

¹⁵ And he kissed^(A) all his brothers and wept over them.^(B) Afterward his brothers talked with him.^(C)
