Praise and Prayer
7 I will tell of the kindnesses(A) of the Lord,
the deeds for which he is to be praised,
according to all the Lord has done for us—
yes, the many good things(B)
he has done for Israel,
according to his compassion(C) and many kindnesses.
8 He said, “Surely they are my people,(D)
children who will be true to me”;
and so he became their Savior.(E)
9 In all their distress he too was distressed,
and the angel(F) of his presence(G) saved them.[a]
In his love and mercy he redeemed(H) them;
he lifted them up and carried(I) them
all the days of old.(J)
10 Yet they rebelled(K)
and grieved his Holy Spirit.(L)
So he turned and became their enemy(M)
and he himself fought(N) against them.
11 Then his people recalled[b] the days of old,
the days of Moses and his people—
where is he who brought them through the sea,(O)
with the shepherd of his flock?(P)
Where is he who set
his Holy Spirit(Q) among them,
12 who sent his glorious arm(R) of power
to be at Moses’ right hand,
who divided the waters(S) before them,
to gain for himself everlasting renown,(T)
13 who led(U) them through the depths?(V)
Like a horse in open country,
they did not stumble;(W)
14 like cattle that go down to the plain,
they were given rest(X) by the Spirit of the Lord.
This is how you guided your people
to make for yourself a glorious name.

Psalm 105:26
New International Version
Psalm 78:12-72
New International Version
12 He did miracles(A) in the sight of their ancestors
in the land of Egypt,(B) in the region of Zoan.(C)
13 He divided the sea(D) and led them through;
he made the water stand up like a wall.(E)
14 He guided them with the cloud by day
and with light from the fire all night.(F)
15 He split the rocks(G) in the wilderness
and gave them water as abundant as the seas;
16 he brought streams out of a rocky crag
and made water flow down like rivers.
17 But they continued to sin(H) against him,
rebelling in the wilderness against the Most High.
18 They willfully put God to the test(I)
by demanding the food they craved.(J)
19 They spoke against God;(K)
they said, “Can God really
spread a table in the wilderness?
20 True, he struck the rock,
and water gushed out,(L)
streams flowed abundantly,
but can he also give us bread?
Can he supply meat(M) for his people?”
21 When the Lord heard them, he was furious;
his fire broke out(N) against Jacob,
and his wrath rose against Israel,
22 for they did not believe in God
or trust(O) in his deliverance.
23 Yet he gave a command to the skies above
and opened the doors of the heavens;(P)
24 he rained down manna(Q) for the people to eat,
he gave them the grain of heaven.
25 Human beings ate the bread of angels;
he sent them all the food they could eat.
26 He let loose the east wind(R) from the heavens
and by his power made the south wind blow.
27 He rained meat down on them like dust,
birds(S) like sand on the seashore.
28 He made them come down inside their camp,
all around their tents.
29 They ate till they were gorged—(T)
he had given them what they craved.
30 But before they turned from what they craved,
even while the food was still in their mouths,(U)
31 God’s anger rose against them;
he put to death the sturdiest(V) among them,
cutting down the young men of Israel.
32 In spite of all this, they kept on sinning;(W)
in spite of his wonders,(X) they did not believe.(Y)
33 So he ended their days in futility(Z)
and their years in terror.
34 Whenever God slew them, they would seek(AA) him;
they eagerly turned to him again.
35 They remembered that God was their Rock,(AB)
that God Most High was their Redeemer.(AC)
36 But then they would flatter him with their mouths,(AD)
lying to him with their tongues;
37 their hearts were not loyal(AE) to him,
they were not faithful to his covenant.
38 Yet he was merciful;(AF)
he forgave(AG) their iniquities(AH)
and did not destroy them.
Time after time he restrained his anger(AI)
and did not stir up his full wrath.
39 He remembered that they were but flesh,(AJ)
a passing breeze(AK) that does not return.
40 How often they rebelled(AL) against him in the wilderness(AM)
and grieved him(AN) in the wasteland!
41 Again and again they put God to the test;(AO)
they vexed the Holy One of Israel.(AP)
42 They did not remember(AQ) his power—
the day he redeemed them from the oppressor,(AR)
43 the day he displayed his signs(AS) in Egypt,
his wonders(AT) in the region of Zoan.
44 He turned their river into blood;(AU)
they could not drink from their streams.
45 He sent swarms of flies(AV) that devoured them,
and frogs(AW) that devastated them.
46 He gave their crops to the grasshopper,(AX)
their produce to the locust.(AY)
47 He destroyed their vines with hail(AZ)
and their sycamore-figs with sleet.
48 He gave over their cattle to the hail,
their livestock(BA) to bolts of lightning.
49 He unleashed against them his hot anger,(BB)
his wrath, indignation and hostility—
a band of destroying angels.(BC)
50 He prepared a path for his anger;
he did not spare them from death
but gave them over to the plague.
51 He struck down all the firstborn of Egypt,(BD)
the firstfruits of manhood in the tents of Ham.(BE)
52 But he brought his people out like a flock;(BF)
he led them like sheep through the wilderness.
53 He guided them safely, so they were unafraid;
but the sea engulfed(BG) their enemies.(BH)
54 And so he brought them to the border of his holy land,
to the hill country his right hand(BI) had taken.
55 He drove out nations(BJ) before them
and allotted their lands to them as an inheritance;(BK)
he settled the tribes of Israel in their homes.
56 But they put God to the test
and rebelled against the Most High;
they did not keep his statutes.
57 Like their ancestors(BL) they were disloyal and faithless,
as unreliable as a faulty bow.(BM)
58 They angered him(BN) with their high places;(BO)
they aroused his jealousy with their idols.(BP)
59 When God heard(BQ) them, he was furious;(BR)
he rejected Israel(BS) completely.
60 He abandoned the tabernacle of Shiloh,(BT)
the tent he had set up among humans.(BU)
61 He sent the ark of his might(BV) into captivity,(BW)
his splendor into the hands of the enemy.
62 He gave his people over to the sword;(BX)
he was furious with his inheritance.(BY)
63 Fire consumed(BZ) their young men,
and their young women had no wedding songs;(CA)
64 their priests were put to the sword,(CB)
and their widows could not weep.
65 Then the Lord awoke as from sleep,(CC)
as a warrior wakes from the stupor of wine.
66 He beat back his enemies;
he put them to everlasting shame.(CD)
67 Then he rejected the tents of Joseph,
he did not choose the tribe of Ephraim;(CE)
68 but he chose the tribe of Judah,(CF)
Mount Zion,(CG) which he loved.
69 He built his sanctuary(CH) like the heights,
like the earth that he established forever.
70 He chose David(CI) his servant
and took him from the sheep pens;
71 from tending the sheep(CJ) he brought him
to be the shepherd(CK) of his people Jacob,
of Israel his inheritance.
72 And David shepherded them with integrity of heart;(CL)
with skillful hands he led them.
Nehemiah 9:9-14
New International Version
9 “You saw the suffering of our ancestors in Egypt;(A) you heard their cry at the Red Sea.[a](B) 10 You sent signs(C) and wonders(D) against Pharaoh, against all his officials and all the people of his land, for you knew how arrogantly the Egyptians treated them. You made a name(E) for yourself,(F) which remains to this day. 11 You divided the sea before them,(G) so that they passed through it on dry ground, but you hurled their pursuers into the depths,(H) like a stone into mighty waters.(I) 12 By day(J) you led(K) them with a pillar of cloud,(L) and by night with a pillar of fire to give them light on the way they were to take.
13 “You came down on Mount Sinai;(M) you spoke(N) to them from heaven.(O) You gave them regulations and laws that are just(P) and right, and decrees and commands that are good.(Q) 14 You made known to them your holy Sabbath(R) and gave them commands, decrees and laws through your servant Moses.
