⁴ How long is the ^(A)land to mourn
And the ^(B)vegetation of the countryside to wither?
For the ^(C)wickedness of those who dwell in it,
^(D)Animals and birds have been snatched away,
Because men have said, “He will not see our latter ^(E)ending.”

⁵ “For even the doe in the field has given birth only to abandon her young,
Because there is ^(A)no grass.
⁶ “The ^(B)wild donkeys stand on the bare heights;
They pant for air like jackals,
Their eyes fail
For there is ^(C)no vegetation.

³ Therefore the land ^(A)mourns,
And everyone who lives in it languishes
Along with the beasts of the field and the birds of the sky,
And also the fish of the sea ^[a]disappear.
