21 Solomon reigned [a]over all the kingdoms from the [Euphrates] River to the land of the Philistines and to the border of Egypt; they brought tribute and served Solomon all the days of his life.

  1. 1 Kings 4:21 That King Solomon’s empire was as great as is definitely indicated here and in II Chron. 9:26 has frequently been questioned because of the great empires of Assyria on the Euphrates and Egypt on the Nile. But archaeological discoveries prove that “precisely during the period 1100-900 b.c., when the kingdom of Israel was being built up, ‘the weak and inglorious twenty-first dynasty’ was ruling in Egypt and at the same time Assyria went into a period of decline” (J.
