1 Kings 2:26-28
New English Translation

26 The king then told Abiathar the priest, “Go back to your property[a] in Anathoth. You deserve to die,[b] but today I will not kill you because you did carry the ark of the Sovereign Lord before my father David and you suffered with my father through all his difficult times.”[c] 27 Solomon removed Abiathar from being a priest for the Lord, fulfilling the Lord’s message that he had pronounced against the family of Eli in Shiloh.

28 When the news reached Joab (for Joab had supported[d] Adonijah, although he had not supported Absalom), he[e] ran to the tent of the Lord and grabbed hold of the horns of the altar.[f]

26 To Abiathar(A) the priest the king said, “Go back to your fields in Anathoth.(B) You deserve to die, but I will not put you to death now, because you carried the ark(C) of the Sovereign Lord before my father David and shared all my father’s hardships.”(D) 27 So Solomon removed Abiathar from the priesthood of the Lord, fulfilling(E) the word the Lord had spoken at Shiloh about the house of Eli.

28 When the news reached Joab, who had conspired with Adonijah though not with Absalom, he fled to the tent of the Lord and took hold of the horns(F) of the altar.
