³¹ He also made houses^[a] on high places and appointed priests from among all the people who were not Levites.^(A)

⁹ Have you not driven out the priests of the Lord, the descendants of Aaron, and the Levites and made priests for yourselves like the peoples of other lands? Whoever comes to be consecrated with a young bull or seven rams becomes a priest of what are no gods.^(A)

³² They also worshiped the Lord and appointed from among themselves all sorts of people as priests of the high places, who sacrificed for them in the shrines of the high places.^(A)

³² For the saying that he proclaimed by the word of the Lord against the altar in Bethel and against all the houses of the high places that are in the cities of Samaria shall surely come to pass.”^(A)

³³ Even after this event Jeroboam did not turn from his evil way but made priests for the high places again from among all the people; any who wanted to be priests he consecrated for the high places.^(B)

¹⁴ The Levites had left their pasturelands and possessions and had come to Judah and Jerusalem because Jeroboam and his sons had prevented them from serving as priests of the Lord^{(A) 15} and had appointed his own priests for the high places and for the goat-demons and for the calves that he had made.^(B)

¹⁰ But you shall enroll Aaron and his descendants; it is they who shall attend to the priesthood, and any outsider who comes near shall be put to death.”^(A)

⁶ Say to the rebellious house,^[a] to the house of Israel: Thus says the Lord God: O house of Israel, let there be an end to all your abominations^{(A) 7} in admitting foreigners, uncircumcised in heart and flesh, to be in my sanctuary, profaning my temple when you offer to me my food, the fat and the blood. You^[b] have broken my covenant with all your abominations.^{(B) 8} And you have not kept charge of my sacred offerings, but you have appointed foreigners^[c] to act for you in keeping my charge in my sanctuary.

²⁵ at the head of every street you built your lofty place and prostituted your beauty, offering yourself^[a] to every passer-by and multiplying your prostitution.^(A)

²⁴ Then as he went away, a lion met him on the road and killed him. His body was thrown in the road, and the donkey stood beside it; the lion also stood beside the body.^(A)
