¹² Yet for the sake of David your father I will not do it in your days, but I will tear it out of the hand of your son.

^19 (A)because your heart was penitent, and you ^(B)humbled yourself before the Lord, when you heard how I spoke against this place and against its inhabitants, that they should become ^(C)a desolation and ^(D)a curse, and you ^(E)have torn your clothes and wept before me, I also have heard you, declares the Lord. ²⁰ Therefore, behold, I will gather you to your fathers, and ^(F)you shall be gathered to your grave in peace, and your eyes shall not see all the disaster that I will bring upon this place.’” And they brought back word to the king.

¹⁹ Then Hezekiah said to Isaiah, ^(A)“The word of the Lord that you have spoken is good.” For he thought, “Why not, if there will be peace and security in my days?”

¹⁷ Behold, the days are coming, when ^(A)all that is in your house, and that which your fathers have stored up till this day, shall be carried to Babylon. Nothing shall be left, says the Lord.

²⁹ “Have you seen how Ahab has humbled himself before me? Because he has humbled himself before me, I will not bring the disaster in his days; ^(A)but in his son's days I will bring the disaster upon his house.”

⁴ And he passed through ^(A)the hill country of Ephraim and passed through the land of ^(B)Shalishah, but they did not find them. And they passed through the land of Shaalim, but they were not there. Then they passed through the land of Benjamin, but did not find them.

⁵ When they came to the land of Zuph, Saul said to his servant^[a] who was with him, “Come, let us go back, ^(C)lest my father cease to care about the donkeys and become anxious about us.”

^5 (A)You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the Lord your God am ^(B)a jealous God, ^(C)visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me,

²⁹ So it was that, when God destroyed the cities of the valley, God ^(A)remembered Abraham and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow when he overthrew the cities in which Lot had lived.

^2 (A)And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing.
